I think God is in all of us from the moment we're born, but as we get older he's stifled by the polluting influence of the world.
I'm lucky in that respect because I've always had a rebellious anti-world nature, so he was never stifled in me..
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world" (Rom 12:2)
"As a soldier of Christ, please only God and not the world" (2 Tim 2:3/4)
"Do not love the world or the things in it, otherwise the love of God is not in you" (1 John 2:15-17)
"Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth" (Col 3:2)
"A friend of the world is the enemy of God" (James 4:4)
"You were dead when you followed the ways of the world" (Eph 2:1/2)
"You died with Christ from this world, so don't keep submitting to its rules" (Col 2:20)
"For we look at things unseen rather than the seen, for the seen are temporary, but the unseen are eternal" (2 Cor 4:18)

Not to be contentious, but I would have to disagree with your two opening statements.
Ephesians 2:1-3
"And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others."
Prior to being quickened or made alive in Christ, we all walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, or the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience. We all also had our conversation or behavior in times past in the lusts of our flesh, or in fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and we were all, by nature, children of wrath. This is precisely why Jesus said that we must be born again (John 3:7).
I hope that you understand what I am saying.
