He did understand the times in which he lived, albeit through a secular mind. So he had no real answers. Too bad He never came to faith. Had he understood from God's point of view, he could have offered hope.
A quick search reveals:
In a Rolling Stone interview from 1969, Dylan said that he had been “going through some changes”
and had been “thinking about Jesus”. In the early 1970s, Dylan became friends with singer-songwriter
Ronnie Hawkins, who introduced him to the teachings of Jesus. In the late 1970s, he became a born-
again Christian and released a series of albums of contemporary gospel music before returning to
his more familiar rock-based idiom in the early 1980s. Dylan has admitted to being a Christian
because of the way music aids in his faith. Nonetheless, Dylan's return to Judaism did not appear to
undermine his Christian faith, and he also stated that his conversion did not invalidate his Christian
faith. Dylan's view is that both the Old and New Testaments apply to him.
