I assume that most are against the wanton killing of any animal. And if that was the purpose, I join you in your dissent. But if there is purpose to the decision, you should in good conscience have shared that too.

I visited a summer camp once where the black bears wandered through at night. We were warned but no one was attacked. Polar bears and Grizzlies would be a whole different story.

Alaska's black bears are more likely to attack a human for food than grizzlies. Polar bear encounters are more rare since most of hte population is in areas where polar bears don't tread. Grizzlies are more likely to go after a human just because the human has trespassed into its territory.

The fact is that the federal government is composed of 50 states, 49 of which do not have the issues that Alaskans have with bears, whether they be black, Grizzly or Polar bear. The fact is also that a Polar bear or Grizzly bear is a very scary animal. It is perfectly reasonable for Alaskans to not want 49 states telling them what to do about this threat. It is also hard to see how the other 49 states have a compelling interest in this.

Your argument would carry more weight if you didn't characterize Trump's behavior while making your points.
I've known lots of hunters. They are largely ecologically sensitive and kill only what they consume and that which poses danger. It is in the hunter's interest to preserve and conserve a source of food or income.
Trophy hunting should be outlawed in my opinion and prosecuted. But ultimately, it should be a local and state matter.
Incidentally, I was glad Trump did away with so many of Obama's executive orders. Obama did much by executive order because he couldn't get it done through legislation. If the ideas are wanted by the American people, legislation is the way the constitution prescribes.

No, it does not do anything of the kind, this is total BS. What it does is allow Alaska to make their own laws concerning hunting.
