Is believing Jesus is real enough to be believing in him as it would be taken from John 3:16? I ask because I think I might be a little slow in the uptake, like I read things in the Bible that have to do with Jesus but I have trouble retaining those things. Is it enough to just believe he is real?

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart
that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Even the demons believe Jesus is real. We must repent of - turn away from - our own efforts to save ourselves - and believe/rely on Jesus' sacrifice for our sins (alone), for our salvation.

John 6:26-53
26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

This is faith

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Must believe that He exists and he is a rewarder of those who seek after him

NO. There is a lot more to believing IN and ON Christ. His reality is a given.
What all do you have to do then? Why would not believing he is real be enough? It just says you have to believe in him.

As I understand it the answer would be yes. Man would have us jump through all kind of hoops but even in the OT Joel 2:32 "everyone who calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved (will be saved)." Yes its so easy for us today to jump to Peter, 1st John, Romans yet back then there was only the Torah and what Christ said. Some praise God see this as just words John 3:16-17 nothing more then a thought a choice. If that was the case then I would agree its not enough you would have to show something do something to proof you really repented.

That is not the case though. He though on earth was a man yet His words are life. We can be walking with the lord all our life's and have thousands under us that God put us over and then some of them could bring a woman or man caught in adultery. Then you could say "you with out sin cast the first stone" they would look at each other and say "were not doing that she/he was caught in sin and need to so something " blah blah blah. When He Christ the messiah said by the authority which was given to Him in heaven and earth cut right to the heart they see.

So when He said who so ever believes the moment you hear those words read those words they and believe it cuts right to the heart. To be able to understand just who Yeshua/Jesus is does not come from man but the Holy Spirit. "Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. " He said "opens the door" thats all it takes. Born from above. I have found just believing.. moves God.. He LOVES FIATH!

John 3:15
So that everyone who believes will have eternal life in Him.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:18
The one who believes in Him is not judged; the one who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

John 3:36
The one who believes in the Son has eternal life; but the one who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

John 5:24
Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

John 6:35
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; the one who comes to Me will not be hungry, and the one who believes in Me will never be thirsty.

John 6:40
For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.

John 6:47
Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who believes has eternal life.

John 7:38
The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water'.

John 11:25
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies,

John 11:26
And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?

John 12:44
Now Jesus cried out and said, “The one who believes in Me, does not believe only in Me, but also in Him who sent Me.

John 12:46
I have come as Light into the world, so that no one who believes in Me will remain in darkness.

1 Corinthians 1:21
For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

It's a great start Lee!

I'm a little slow on the uptake too!! I really am. But the nice thing about our God is that He's remarkably patient and understanding of our weakness.
Trust God's promise that He is faithful in continuing the work that He's begun... in you.
Study and pray.

Since you said, "NO" (even in capital letters ) why don't you explain to LeeLoving what is the "lot more" that has to be done?

Of course Christ is real. But who is He really? What has He accomplished in His life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension? What has He said about salvation and being His disciple?

Just believe in Him and trust Him to see you through. Don't make it more complicated than it is. Pray, read His word and try to stay humble. Humility is your best friend.

I don't know why believing he is real wouldn't be enough as long as you don't deny anything about him.

John 3:16
King James Version

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

If I'm not mistaken it just says you have to believe in him.

Because the demons believe He is real and tremble. Probably more than a lot of people. That does not mean that they are saved. Do you know what He did for you on the cross?

I don't know if they can even be saved (demons). I might not be able to put it the right way but Jesus died like the animal sacrifices used to die. So he was a sacrifice for our sin so it could be forgiven? I guess I don't fully understand it.

Christ took all your sins and guilt upon Himself while He was nailed to that cross. Then He paid the full penalty for your sin debt. At the same time He shed His own precious blood so that your sins could be forgiven. Then He rose again for your justification.

Is there anything else she should do Nehemiah6? Does she have to be water baptized to be saved according to you?
