"Belmont University, a private Christian college in Nashville, Tennessee, announced last week it had canceled a scheduled event with Promise Keepers citing a conflict of values.

Promise Keepers, a noted Christian men's ministry, said in a press release the event's cancellation occurred after the ministry released a statement at the end of last month, reaffirming its support for biblical marriage between one man and one woman and what it perceives to be the dangers of gender ideology."

Source: CBN News.

This is not a matter of a disagreement over some minor doctrine. The Bible clearly condemns homosexuality and homosexuals are disqualified from entering the Kingdom of God. Of course, this applies to a range of sinful behaviours (1 Corinthians 6:9). What is different is that no one (so far!) panders to adulterers, murderers or thieves. "Gay Christian" is as much an oxymoron as "Adulterous Christian". Jesus came to set the captives free, not to pander to them or try to excuse their sinful lifestyle. "Go, and sin no more" is applicable to every one who seeks to follow Christ.

I don't get why private "Christian" universities like this even bother calling themselves Christian. It's clear most of them are Christian in name only so why the pretense? They're a bunch of cowards who fear the alphabet crowd and are afraid the gravy train will end.

The SBC initially funded the university as a seminary a long time ago as there wasn't one in the area. The Seminary expanded its curriculum and became a regular 4 year university.
Since that time the university has left its Christian values and become more secular as time has gone by. Their president is not a Christian and the BoD obviously is not either.

As a result of this statement....they got some 'splainin to do. I know for a fact that many wealthy conservative Baptist churches give them huge sums of money every year. (Like millions of dollars)

I don't see these churches continuing their generosity to this institution if they wish to make such statements.

Couple of ways to look at this.

Anger

Apprehension

Disgust

The one I’m going with is excitement!

We are literally, in our time, witnessing the Great Falling Away.

Take heart brothers and sisters. We are close.

hi, Ed! :)

i heard a sermon once on the "blessing of apostasy".
sounds weird, right, but the speaker was pointing out that it gets the tares out of the Church.
and, from there those folks may actually be saved.

I just wish for peaceful days...ones with normal and mundane troubles.

I got my herbs growing and tomatoes started. I got a lot of projects I wish to do...
Might be a boring life for many but I enjoy it immensely.

weird

well many universities accept women now, so it could be just that.

I think the promise keepers need to do their conferences where its actually most needed...in mens prisons.
