You sound like you feel very strongly about it, the most relevant being that you "believe all of the Holy Spirit gifts ceased during the apostolic age". What does this mean? What's the "Apostolic Age"? Why do you believe it ended and all spiritual gifts ended?
I just go by the basics... speaking in tongues happened in Acts and in the churches afterward. Pual emphasized that the speaking in tongues that only God understands should be done in private for the reason it doesn't edify the church members present, and that unbelievers visiting will likely think the 'not-understood-speaking' person is out of their mind.
I'm just aware of what's in the bible, so I'm at a loss regarding what you're saying. I don't have a position on what you said, I'm just asking if you can tell me What's the "Apostolic Age"? Why do you believe it and all spiritual gifts ended?
a you know how the ot was Hebrew scriptire ? When God sent the gospel pit to all nations and languages tongues became a pracrical gift necassary for the spreading of the gospel to those who spoke other languages if you look at pentocost you can see the practicality of it and it’s usefulness and even it’s necessary within the church for sharing the gospel with someone that doesn’t speak the same language otherwise the gospel cold t be preached but to none nationality and people like the ot so you have this event
“But
ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and
ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Acts 1:8
this would require them to be able to speak on many languages and so
“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with
other tongues,( languages ) as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
Acts 2:4 KJV
“Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because
that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not
all these which speak Galilæans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another,
What meaneth this?”
Acts 2:6-8, 11-12 KJV
Already you see tongues working to draw thoer attention and curiousoty see they aren’t speaking jibborish or unknown languages but foreign human languages they didn’t know naturally the spirit had given them utterance to speak on all the languages of the people present the same things Jesus taught them in Aramaic and Hebrew now they are speaking it in many languages by the soirit because of the great commission it requires other languages if this is to be done
“And he said unto them,
Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And they went forth,
and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”
Mark 16:15-16, 20 KJV
every creature doesn’t speak the same language therefore tongues is needed and useful to spread the gospel think of it when earth began there was just one language designed by God but then because of mans sin and unity of rebellion against him God caused then to speak many different languages so they couldn’t communicate and work together against him
So the many nations were scattered and language seperated
“And
the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. Go to,
let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the LORD
scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.”
Genesis 11:1, 7-8 KJV
Now there are many nations and languages but only israel is chosen and scripture is only given in Hebrew and Aramaic u til the
reconciliation begins when the nations are being brought back to one and so the opposite God gives them the ability to communicate again and understand each other innorder that the gospel is able to reach all men in any language
I’m not saying anything else isn’t true just that to view is a practical d necassary gift for the growth of the church otherwise it would be limited to one language speakers and anyone with another tongue could never hear the gospel
diversity of tongues is a practical linguistical gift necassary for the church to grow and expand into all the world
