Does 1 John 3:15 say that someone who commits suicide doesn't have eternal life?

The first statistical survey ever written in the field of sociology was a book called On Suicide by Emile Durkheim. Sociology is the beginning of perspectivism and is to the proper name Socrates and Psychology is to the proper name Penelope, both Homeric Greeks. Durkheim attempts to explain individual motives by suicide case, and then graphs within the suicide verdict by cause.

What the study does is to remove the facts of the legal and community environment from the investigation of the cause of death, the sociological study is an excuse for ruling bullying cases, harassment cases, and third-party court harassment cases suicide, when in fact someone else was the cause of death.

This fact has entered common legal parlance, the person confessed and hanged himself during cross examination on the witness stand, and the police investigate certain crimes in a lazies faire economic mode ("we'll just let the IRS audit the gangsters instead of investigating the forensically unconnected shootings of their neighbors).

In other words, there are real suicides (Kurt Cobain shot himself in the head, for example) and then there are deaths by judicial malfeasance ruled "suicidal" because the person just wouldn't "play the game", "get with the program", or vote the way they were told to or whatever.

1 John 3:15
King James Version

15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

(from biblegateway: link)

Would it be correct to view suicide as self-murder and that someone who has committed suicide could not have been saved (using this verse, since someone committing suicide would be someone murdering themselves)? Or is that not the correct way to see things and this verse? I ask as the son of someone who committed suicide (my mother).
When someone in the Bible is characterized as a murderer.. that's different to a believer who has tripped up in sin.

But the key thing here is what is the context of the whole passage? There is a lot more to this in the verses before and after.

Eternal life can't be undone. Only God can undo it ...and He promises the believer He won't do that.

The book of John has many many verses about having eternal life and it being forever.. therefore you gotta put this verse along side it.

I find suicide as more of a mental illness especially if a person is depressed, rather than evil. Sometimes a person might commit suicide to escape judgement/punishment, like the warden in Shawshank Redemption. Sometimes others can push a person to suicide, like bullies, etc. so they may be held more responsible and the person who committed suicide is more of a victim. I think it really depends on case by case basis how God will judge this.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life
, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15
For the love of Christ constraineth us
; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

Psalm 104:33
I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live
: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

On earth as it is in Heaven.

it took me a while to read it but your post was very informative and brought things about suicide I never considered.

Aside from the person and act itself the legal system involving it is something I never considered.
I don't believe we have spoken much if at all but I can tell you are very intelligent the way you organize your words and thoughts says it all

There is an elderly man on my mail route who once told me that if he is alive to see Christian persecution in America during the tribulation then he and his wife will commit double suicide because they are too old to deal with it and the Bible says nothing against suicide.

Don't judge ... we are simply not able to. God knows the human heart. Trust Him and leave these things in His hands.

When a person sins they will repent after they have sinned and ask for forgiveness.

It would not count to repent while you are doing the sin for you are in the act of doing it so how can you repent of it.

If a person commits suicide they cannot be in the act of it and say they repent trying to avoid it being on their record because they could of stopped themselves while they were doing it.

After they commit the suicide then they cannot repent of the act for they are no longer in the flesh.

However a person dies they will stay that way for eternity which if forgiveness it is like that forever, and if sins on their record it is like that forever.

A person cannot repent after they committed suicide for it is too late.

We can only repent while in the flesh for once the flesh is put off a person that died in sins their whole being is tainted with no where to put off the sin.

That is why the fallen angels cannot be saved for they are one being so when they sinned they tainted their whole being with no where to put off the sin.

But a person is soul and flesh, and all sin resides in the flesh which Paul said in the flesh dwells no good thing, so if a person dies in their sins and puts off the flesh then they are one being and their whole being it tainted with no where to put off the flesh.

It is because people are in the flesh that they have a chance to be saved which the angels did not have that advantage to be saved when they fell.

The Bible says the devils believe there is one God and they tremble, and when Satan is kicked out of heaven and is cast to Earth to appear as the antichrist he is mad for he knows he has a short time, and the devils said to Jesus will you torture us before the time.

The devils know they are beat so if they had the chance to be saved they would take it but they know God will never accept them because there is no reversal in their situation so they will try to cause us to not receive salvation because they cannot be saved so they want us to not be saved either.

Sounds like human nature when they get caught doing a crime with other people but they are the only one that got caught for they will say if I am going down I am taking everyone else with me.

When they were committing the crime with other people stealing money they wanted to somehow cheat and swindle the money away from the other people for you know how it goes with these criminal types, but when they get caught they all of a sudden have the 3 Musketeers attitude all for one and one for all for they are all going down with him.

Fallen angels can't be saved because God didn't become an angel, live a sinless life as an angel to provide righteousness for them, and then die a substitutionary death on their behalf.
Also, either sins are all paid for at the cross or they are not. That is the basis for forgiveness; not repentance. Everyone dies with sins they have not repented of.

Some folk's lives are heavily handicapped and they struggle with very basic tasks. They need a full-time assistant such as mum, dad or a hired hand. To eat, to use the toilet, to wash, to go shopping and cleaning.

Many of these people commit suicide later in life because the struggle is too great to endure.

I think you will see the point if you think it through. Suicide is sometimes a necessary choice.

Touching only this.. they still live forever. See we know our body can get hit by some sickness (Isa 53:5) so the mind can also get sick ;) Only God knows the heart. Many I am sure tried to say something but no one on this planet can answer this... like the song I speak the name of Jesus.. I just want to speak the name of Jesus Til every dark addiction starts to break Declaring there is hope and there is freedom I speak Jesus"

Yes playing as I typed.. perfect timing.
