He simply heard the message which included the need for baptism, believed it, confirmed his belief by confessing it, and was immediately baptized. He was saved! No different than others in the recorded conversions such as the Jews on the day of Pentecost. They heard the message, believed, and were baptized. They too were saved. Everything else is secondary.
