This is true. That's why we get jobs; to make money, so we can have a roof over our head, food to eat, a place to sleep. I get turned off when christians act like their life is just wonderful all the time because of what they are experiencing spiritually. The spiritual is nice, in fact, I would say essential. Life is pretty empty without God. But as long as we remain in the physical realm, we have physical needs and desire.
This shoot from the hip style discussion is very worthy of serious study.
My proposition is that Christianity is worth more than the breath that you pull into your lungs through your nostrils. And thus worth more than your present life.
If I was in your shoes I would more than likely feel exactly the same way you do and possibly would have given up already if not sooner.
The reason is that Christianity is not a fly-by-night or a get rich quick scheme (by rich I mean having a good or comfortable earthly life).
Let's make an example. If 2 people start working at the same company in the same position, and they both work for 10 to 20 years. The first person, A, at the end of 20 years has $100 in the bank.
But the 2nd person, B, has $100,000 in the bank.
Which one would be in a position to enjoy a good life, probably buy a nice home, a car etc etc.
Now the person, A, might wake up, when he notices B's good fortune. But person A has a serious problem. Inflation has wiped out all of his savings and prevents him from making any serious future savings.
This is one of the problems that would deter many from coming to Christ today. We are presently in the tribulation where God's wrath and judgment is taking it's toll on everyone. (Even those true Christians, because these have accumulated a surplus of resilience that will take them to the end.)
Just a few verses for your consideration.
Ecc 12:1 Remember
now thy Creator
in the days of thy youth,
while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say,
I have no pleasure in them;
Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and
when he is old, he will not depart from it.
I am sure that there are scores of verses in the new testament that says the exact same thing. The gist of the problem is that those who do not have a good foundation will flounder in these last days.
Heb 5:13 For every one that useth
milk is
unskilful in the word of righteousness:
for he is a babe.
Heb 5:14 But
strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised
to discern both good and evil.
Isa_5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
In summary I would say that those who exercised their faith, God will protect them. Those who are lukewarm with inconsistent faith will suffer the wrath of God. (Possibly leading them to give up on their faith.)
Rev 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience,
I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall
come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Rev 3:16 So then because
thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot,
I will spue thee out of my mouth.
The bible is extremely clear, the 5 unwise virgins who were unprepared were shut out of the kingdom of heaven.
