It's called art. For those who are scared of it, they can just stay in their moms' basements.

Lol. If you can't tell the difference between a Michelangelo's David and a Playboy magazine, you probably should stay in your mom's basement. One is art, the other is filth.
It's all filth. It's all exposing what should be covered up. But I guess if I walked down the street naked in broad daylight, you'd say "that's art".
Hey, let's take a photo of puke, excrement, and hang it on a wall so we can admire the 'art".

Stupidity and ignorance is reaching critical mass with some people.

Principal resigns in Fla. amid parent complaints over art lesson with image of Michelangelo’s ‘David’
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray News) - The former principal for a Tallahassee charter school resigned after what she called a “series of miscommunications” regarding a sixth grade art class lesson that included an image of Michelangelo’s ‘David.’ The situation drew several complaints from parents, and has launched debate over the school’s policies.

Tallahassee Classical School confirmed to WCTV the art lesson took place last Friday, and several parents reached out to express concerns that same day.

Board Chair Barney Bishop confirmed that as part of an emergency meeting a few days later on Monday, former principal Hope Carrasquilla was given an ultimatum to either resign or be terminated.

“She is an at will employee,” Bishop said. “Just like any of our other teachers at the school.”

Bishop said accepting Carrasquilla’s resignation was not solely because of what happened in the classroom, but would not say why he asked for her resignation at the advice of the school’s employment lawyer.

Carrasquilla also confirmed two choices were given, and she said that in the meeting with the board it was conveyed to her “it wasn’t one specific thing” that lead to the decision. article continues

So now we are going to have teen-agers thinking sex is dirty and not normal
It IS dirty!
Why else do you think Jesus had to be born to a virgin? Why do you think Jesus never copulated with his followers?

That's right. God later made animal skin coverings for them, but they made themselves fig leaf coverings before God confronted them. Good point.

And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; so they sewed together fig leaves and made coverings for themselves.
Gen. 3:7
I always wonder how they got around in the garden if they were visually impaired.
And if they hadn't eaten the forbidden fruit, would they have continued running around naked? I am guessing there was no winter back then.

Lol. If you walked down the street naked, you rightly should be arrested. However, mothers will often change their babies in public, without any crime of indecency.

Michelangelo's David statue does have some effeminate features and the little wiener part just provides confirmation to the viewer that the statue is indeed male. It has nothing to do with sex or causing arousal, and most rational adults would not consider it filth, anymore than describing a socket which has connections that stick out as "male", or describing a socket with internal slotted connections as "female".

Michelangelo's David is not pornography. It's also not the true depiction of what is presumably king David who in actuality would have been circumcised.

With all the deviant sinful programming PS children are frought with now days, Renaissance art should be a relief. Not a perceived threat.

It's like an episode of Beavis and Butthead. "Hey, Beavis, that statue has a stiffy!"
"Yeah, yeah, he's ready to do it!"
First off I laughed because if you think the statue has a "stiffy" I seriously question how old/educated in life you really are.

But then curiosity got me and I had to check, and lo and behold there is an episode of Beavis and his pal touring an art museum (I won't post it, but it was a pretty easy find) where they do indeed comment about the marble statue being hard while parts of it *ahem* are not.

(Even Beavis and his pal know it's nothing to get worked up over :cautious: )

I've wondered about this in the past. I think King David might even have been insulted with that aspect, considering his epithets to his enemies the "uncircumcised philistines". This said, maybe Michelangelo did it deliberately so as to show the statue was male whilst giving it an infant's member (less than 8 days old) to reduce any focus on sexual aspects (contrary to the OP's opinion).

Very true! Far worse to see the deviant people in public, with men trying to appear as women, and women as men.

Agreed. Many children suffer low self esteem because their parents implant the idea they should be ashamed of their bodies.

When we read of girls from Christian families killing their newborn after hiding their pregnancy from their strict Christian parents it was because they were ashamed and terrified of their parents reactions.

A Renaissance masterpiece labeled as pornography is part of that suppressive shame culture and mind set.
It's a tragedy.

I'm really shocked to read this kind of statement on "christian" forum. Suppressive shame culture? So we really do want to let it all hang out, show each other what we have?
The next indicated step, then, would be to teach the children what those body parts are for - not just pissing and defecating.
Who would like to step up and show the kids how it's done?

So there's no middle ground? Just because we don't "let it all hang out", does that mean we need to have a coronary about art that shows a male feature?

Cover the damn thing up!
Since we're on the topic of art and what is/isn't offensive, what are your thoughts on crucifixion art work?
Are you pleased whenever you see paintings of Jesus hanging there with

covered?

Because He was stripped of EVERYTHING, He bore ALL our shame, and the reality is that yes, even THAT was exposed (regardless of how religious art portrays it)

Very true. Men and women were crucified naked so to shame them to death.

This is an interesting question. While I'm not offended by Michelangelo's David, I really dislike the crucifixion art with Jesus on the cross. Perhaps it's partly because I think how can we mere men capture the likeness of our Saviour in our art (or even dare to try), or perhaps it's because I don't think we ever could properly describe what He went through for us, or perhaps because He is risen, so why bother to permanently capture what He suffered when He has been raised? Maybe all three.

So while I don't really even bat an eye at an ugly little doodle on a Michelangelo's David statue, any sort of depiction of the Saviour on the cross (not an empty cross), twists and tears at my heart to observe.

It would be wise to take the advice in Proverbs 26 in application to this op.

Let me put it colloquially. Don't lower yourself in response to someone who goads and thinks everyone is on his/her level. You don't want to be like them.
