Believe in Jesus, reject the Bible, is it even possible?

Was it the school you went to?

I attended WVU. I was required to take classes in biology, labs and some in the colleges of liberal arts. That was interesting.
My college was pretty straight forward middle American values. I even had a professor in Animal and Veterinary Science that made us look up agricultural practices in the Bible. I liked that. In a university there are many required classes in various colleges. Then you have electives. The downtown colleges were all pretty liberal in the sense of not agreeing with a Biblical world view in some cases.

For electives, I took classes that I thought would be practical for my plans. Some just ended up being a challenge, for example English writing class. My professor made us write papers on controversial issues, abortion, suicide, animal rights, and my term paper was on Evolution vs Creation.
I took the Biblical viewpoint and the teacher always took the extreme opposite argument. We had to defend our points of view. It was good for me to be challenged. A man has to learn why he believes what he believes or he'll fall for anything.

That is interesting. But I could see how someone not grounded in the word could be swayed by a professor like that.

That one example reminds me of the Campus Christian Ministry that I belonged to. The president of it that year was David. He was in the same class. I could see him fold and even give in to some of the debates.

Hello brothers and sisters. I have a very very close family member who says they REJECT the Bible, but believe in Jesus.

I know most people didn't even have a bible in the first century and you don't even need to read to be saved, but in my opinion now that we do have the complete bible and we CAN read, to reject it is pretty much rejecting God isn't it?

What do you guys feel about this? Is she saved or not? I do not think so honestly, because st. Paul warns us of "another Jesus"

It's the reverse. The Pharisees claimed to believe the scriptures yet rejected Jesus. Jesus is the Word of God. Many believe the facts about Jesus, but as an example to follow instead of Saviour and Lord. I doubt such people are saved.

The early church had the OT. It speaks of Jesus. I'm in the process of writing a study on the "Road to Emmaus" where Jesus revealed Himself in the OT. Most of what Paul wrote was to counteract false teaching by false apostles. So it is not true that the early church did not have God's word. It's one thing not to know God's word. It is entirely another to reject it entirely.

That's not for public info.

The colleges might serve some well and be required for future plans, but I think it's a scam in many fields. I'm not against higher education. I see life as a continued education program that's personalized for needs. But college is certainly not for everyone and I don't recommend it any more.

No I haven't but there are things im interested in that I'd love to study. Like Greek and Hebrew, to be able to read the bible in the original languages. Also I think anthropology is fascinating, and I'd love to take a writing course. But I really don't know what college I would or should go to.

I'm aware of an online course in Greek that was taught correspondence. Maybe I can be of help there.

I'm going to be honest with you. All of the secular colleges of anthropology and many christian universities that offer it will teach an evolutionary world view. That means that they will hold to many lies on the origins of mankind and various early cultures .
That's a major pet peeve that I have with those colleges and professors. Their artifacts of ancestry are mostly hoaxes that were long disproved by secular research. The problem is that in spite of that, they have continued to promote those lies as facts.

Even the Carnegie Museum does this with the major travelling exhibits as well as their permanent artifacts.
. I hated those. I used to be an ambassador for them, but I would teach the truth instead. However, my field was in wildlife education. I did some fossil and dinosaur programs. The children loved those. I would work in some basic anthropology where it applied to my classes.

Ask this person "Who is Jesus, and how do you know that this is the true Jesus?" If you get a flaky answer you will know what this person really believes.

She definitely a very sensitive person, in and out of mental institutions. Very sad.

perhaps you might gently point out to her that no one has any basis for believing in the Lord Jesus apart from the Scriptures? it's in them He is revealed to us. i'll pray for her. ♥

I believe she learned it from going to confirmation. Its a thing lutherans do, when you turn 15 you go to a camp, where they "confirm" your baptism and faith, teach you some basic stuff about the Bible. [Note: I do not believe in infant baptism and i have been baptized as an adult by immersion]

She just says "its personal to me, I know Jesus forgives me my sins" but then if I try to quote something from the Bible to her it turns into "I dont believe in the bible, man wrote all sorts of things in there"
She is a wnb vegan so in particular the issue is the animal sacrifices that were used in the past, and I dare not even bring up the FACT that Jesus and the disciples ate lamb and fish as recorded in the Bible.
