If you weren't alive during the 60s you don't understand. Yes, we had Woodstock but those were a few hippy kids and did not represent the vast majority of the country. They believed in "free sex" but even they did not talk about homosexual sex. We had the Beatles, true, but when John Lennon compared himself with Jesus there were massive protests in the US where they burned their albums. You can argue that the leaven was introduced in the sixties and now 60 years later the whole lump is leavened, but it wasn't leavened in the 60s. Yes we had people protest the war and run to Canada, but they were by far the minority. It wasn't until the 70s and Watergate that a significant number of people began to protest and question the government. Yes, JFK was assassinated in the 60s but the entire country swallowed the official account and it wasn't until the 80s that a significant minority of the country began to question that account. Even so they were able to muddy the waters with all kinds of ridiculous conspiracy theories that to even question the JFK assassination made you look like a looney until now.
