That passage would be speaking to the millennial reign with King Jesus on His throne in Jerusalem in the millennial Temple.
Sin...and sinners, and death.....will still be present in the world during that time.
But no presence of Satan and demons or their influence. And swift justice between men and nations.
And a tremendous healing of the land, biosphere and animal kingdom, and vastly longer life spans in a world filled with
the knowledge of God and peace on earth.

UNTIL....

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
Rev 20:8
And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

THEN.....
The new heavens and new earth is when and where sin is forever gone, never to return.

IMO.....there will be a greater and lesser fulfillment of this (vv. 17) passage (double fulfillments are very common).
The greater is the Rev 21.1 event, which Peter elaborates upon. Peter cannot possibly be speaking about the millennial reign.....this is Rev 21.1 etc. Also....the DOTL that Peter refers to (rightly) covers the entire span of time to eternity future. Not just the 70th week or the SC or millennium or some other limited time frame.

Its nice to have a vineyard in your backyard. Instead of pills, people would be picking grapes and popping. them into their mouths.

Also I think it would be cool to live to one hundred years old, but not be considered old. After all Jesus is way older, like thousands of years in eternity time.

While justice and good health are important, doctors and lawyers turn it into a business and industry.

I know there are medical councils and ombudsmans etc to safeguard all that, but ethically many law firms and hospitals are run as buinesses get away with so much and corrupt their employees.

Same with schools. Teachers can be cruel or ignorant about the realities of learning...this is why false teachers are warned about in the Bible

When you build your own house you can make it how YOU like instead of living inside someone elses house that was not made for you and is now rotting, damp, falling apart, an icebox in winter and sweltering in summer because they just built it with cheap materials on bad land with windows that cant open and or air con that doesnt even work. I agree, you often see greater and lesser fulfillments and also you see multiple fulfillments as though the can repeat. God is amazing in His Majesty and Wisdom.

Why are you so negative and cynical? There are corrupt people in every industry. Teachers, doctors, lawyers are not exempt, but most (by far) follow their calling to serve and help others.

The Millennium will be a prelude to the New Heavens and the New Earth.

So death will exist even until after the Millennium (as seen in the battle of God and Magog). After that will be the Great White Throne Judgment (and the termination of death on earth). Then the supernatural burning up of the earth and the atmospheric heaven will cleanse the earth. And only after that will the New Heavens and the New Earth be established, in which there will never again be any death or anything unpleasant or evil.

God already had a plan before He created the universe, and that plan included all of the above. It also included the perfect sacrifice of the Lamb of God -- the Lord Jesus Christ. Without that sacrifice, the universe could not be perfected. And neither could the saints be perfected.

You do not need to wonder. God has already prepared mansions in the New Jerusalem in Heaven for all His children (John 14:1-3). The earth will also be populated, but the children of God have an eternal home in the New Jerusalem (a city built by God Himself).
