Hello people. I go under the name Samuel online. I am 28M from UK. I made an account for prayer and guidance on my life really.

I have prayed to God for purpose in this life. After trying many things throughout my teens and 20s, I still don't know what it is I am meant to do. This year I feel I've been called out in some way. I have no desire for earthly possessions and amazing careers. It's not what keeps me going at all. I'm quite happy with a simple life, but not a life wasted, you know? My biggest fear is seeing Jesus at the end of my life and him saying to me "why didn't you use the gifts I gave you?".

I'm not lazy. I've tried a lot of things, a lot, but nothing seems to fulfill me.
I guess I'm just asking for people to pray on my life and my life's purpose.
Also to seek guidance, on maybe books to read for Christians (obviously the Bible)
Anyway, that's me.

No worries mate. Sounds like your calling is on the right track from what you say.
Keep the faith, pray for endurance, have a good testimony, keep your life pure from commitments to this world.
Consequently you will be fruitful as the Lord gives you opportunity.
And wait for the Lord's coming for us in the Rapture that is at the very doorstep.

Jhn 6:29
Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Rev 3:10
Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

2Th 1:7
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

Welcome Sam!
Be patient, the Lord reveals His will to all those who seek it, eventually, in His time. For now, just seek a closer walk with Him.
Revelation 3:20
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

So glad that you found us here!!
One gift that I feel that He's given to me was the desire to seek Him out... still asking God to build that desire because I've spent years learning not to... so seeking Him gives me something to do...

Jer. 29:11-13

11For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope. 12Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

Welcome to the chat Samuel! Hope this community edifies you.

Long post ahead (sorry 😅)

I know exactly how you feel, I was in the same position 3 years ago right before the pandemic hit. I was working in the tech industry and wasn't fulfilled at all and I knew that God had more in store for me but I didn't know what I wanted to do or what my true purpose was. Then the pandemic hit and it forced me to take a good look at my life. By chance, I watched a video about a Christian organisation called Destiny Rescue that saves children from sex trafficking - mainly based in Thailand. Within my spirit, I knew that God was calling me to volunteering with them. My plan was only to go on a 2 week long trip then come back to my life in Ireland (but God had other plans). I reached out to them and started organising a two week trip to Thailand to volunteer. Then lockdowns started happening and the organisation decided to pause all their mission trips. So my two week trip to Thailand was cancelled. But I knew in my heart that God wanted me to go to Thailand and participate in anti-sex trafficking efforts so I looked up ways to move to Thailand and I found that I could easily move to teach English. All I needed was to get a TEFL and I already had my degree so before I knew it, I got a job at a Christian school near Bangkok teaching English and I also started going to a church in Bangkok that has an anti-sex trafficking ministry. I was able to volunteer there every week and minister to women who were in the sex trafficking industry. It was a life changing experience and suddenly I knew what my calling was. After 9 months in Thailand, God told me to go to South Korea through a series of undeniable confirmations and I'm currently working as an English teacher here while saving up to do my master's in Christian Counseling in Seoul because I want to be able to better help people (especially children) who have come out of the sex trafficking industry. So yeah if you told me just 3 years ago that I would be where I am today, I would have laughed in your face. God doesn't reveal His whole plan for us at once, it's a series of listening to His voice and obeying His direction one step at a time. God didn't tell Abraham exactly what was going to happen to Him or what exactly his purpose was at first, He just told Abraham to get up and move to another place.

So my advice to you is just continue spending as much time as you can with God every day. Ask Him to help you hear and discern His voice and ask Him what the next step is for you. If God tells you your purpose outright, you may get scared or you might not be in a place spiritually where you can actually handle that information so ask for the next step and pray for confirmations and don't forget that our purpose is always to love God, help the poor and needy (orphans, widows and the elderly especially), spread the gospel and love our neighbours. Try to get busy with volunteer work also because it can also open many doors occupation-wise.

I'll be praying for you, the first step is wanting to know your purpose and what you can do in God's kingdom and you have that down, so don't worry too much also. God loves it when we're eager to serve and always honours that ☺️

I suggest that you read "What Shall This Man Do?" by Watchman Nee. It is most encouraging. The first step is giving over your life to Lord Jesus 100%. I expect that you've done that. God has to prepare the worker for ministry. It's not easy. We think that we are fine, but God sees much deeper. We need to know who we are in Christ and the power of His life within us. We need to be tested in order for us to know if we have faith or just Bible knowledge. How do we react to pressure? Can God depend on us to obey when we feel nothing, get no reward or sense of fulfillment?

A trainee pastor in China asked his mentor how long he should spend preparing his sermons. The senior pastor replied, "Twenty years". I agree.
