I'm concerned with people not appreciating the first amendment in this thread. I am pleased to have the freedom to worship my Heavenly Father. While I have that freedom, I also have freedom FROM religion.
The teachers who didn't allow the students to leave were clearly in the wrong. You can view the kids as petty, immature, etc... nevertheless, people fought and died for their right to not have it forced down their throat.
I think being morbidly obese is wrong, but I don't think we should be legally allowed to force people to treat their body as a temple. It doesn't make a difference if it's physically feeding or mental feeding, we have free will and can put whatever we want into our body/mind.

So before I castigate the teacher or the principal I want to hear from other teachers, the veterans, that were there. Did these kids make it clear they didn't want to be there to them or is this someone makeing a mountain out of a mole hill later.
The idea that freedom of speech can be interpreted as "freedom from speech" is absurd. You have the freedom to ignore the speech but you can't claim your rights have been violated because you heard someone exercising their freedom of speech. If that were true then there is no freedom of speech.
Again, the solution to this whole mess is very simple. Christians, pull your kids out of the public school and homeschool up to 8th grade. Everyone should be able to do that, especially if you work in conjunction with your local church and perhaps a retired teacher.
