Do we need the "spiritual elite?"

They're everywhere; wherever you find someone who thinks they're "special" and wants others to see them as special you'll find a spiritual elitist. If they don't think normal rules of sound Bible interpretation apply to them they're a spiritual elitist.

For example, KJV onlyists are elitist. They don't care about good Bible interpretation, only in what the KJV says. Another example I came across recently is from so-called apostle Bill Hamon. In one of his videos he teaches that tongues in the greatest gift of the Holy Spirit there is; but this clearly isn't the case. If you want to put tongues on a scale scripturally, it's next to last. But does this matter to Hamon? Of course not; he's special and has a direct line to God.

I could go on forever.

On a different Christian forum, I have run into one particular spiritual elitist (who is also a spiritual narcissist) and was also a previous member of Christian Chat but he got banned. He is all about the KJV ONLY movement and he teaches a "different" gospel of "initially" saved by grace through faith, not works, but then ultimately saved by works. He loves to drown out others with endless, long winded posts and he absolutely MUST have the last word in ANY argument and anything that you say to him after that is the beginning of a new argument.

He is all about indicting others on charges of "sinful living" while exalting himself as "holier than thou." I lost count of how many people on that site have placed him on ignore. He even attacked my avatar picture and accused me of promoting a sinful TV show - Seinfeld. I explained to him that I chose that avatar because of my profession as a mailman, yet he still accused me of promoting a sinful TV show and practically demanded that I change my avatar.

I once posted a meme in response to one of his posts that read, "when all else fails, play the straw man card" and in the meme was a picture of the scarecrow from the movie, "The Wizard of Oz." He then accused me of promoting that sinful movie. o_O

Well, I have to admit that episode of Seinfeld was pretty funny.

I did quit watching the show myself because it promotes a lot of sinful and worldly stuff.

I watched a clip of that episode and thought it was funny. Other than that, I did not really watch Seinfeld, so I could not really say either way. I simply chose the avatar pic because of my profession. Now help me figure out why the Wizard of Oz was a sinful movie. Maybe it's the good witch thing. :unsure:

I found his post.

This again is a promotion of a sinful movie (and people do not even know it is sinful).
First, it subtly promotes for a time that there is a concept of good witches (of which there is no such thing).
The Bible condemns all forms of sorcery and witchcraft.
Second, the good Wizard is portrayed as God, and yet it turns out he is a fraud (Which is an attack upon God and or the faith).
The film proposes humanism because the characters learn to get what they want on their journey (humanism) rather than trusting in God. So the film is Anti-God or Anti-Christian.

There is another member on that site with a 'Ferris Bueller' avatar pic and he really got an earful from the spiritual elitist for promoting that sinful movie, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" as well.

hmm well MGM did have a lion roaring in the opening credits of all their movies. The devil is a lion prowling about seeking whom he may devour....

I wonder if Shaun the Sheep meets his approval. Its a claymation movie too, so not even using real people or animals, so no animals would have been harmed in its production.
 
Just on this "understood by those with special spiritual insight ". No we all can do this since its not us is the sweet holy Spirit. Its always wise to have someone over you. Wise to ask seek out those that have studied know ancient Greek, Greek and Hebrew. I wonder how many pray and pray and pray about what they read blah blah blah

I can see his point though and I don't disagree about stuff like that but it's the approach that matters. I'm not completely convinced that humanism is evil entirely though. Perhaps we might mean different things but did God specifically say it was "evil" for humans to build the tower of Babel?

Is building a spaceship wrong?


Perhaps I have the spirit of humanity (building, creating, exploring) confused with an atheistic dogma but it's not clear cut and dry for me since there appears to be common ground with non-believers with "how" we are made (our constitution) but the difference possibly is in "how" we engage that.


Certainly a fair bit that is off about that film and even if someone doesn't want to say it's "all" bad, there are definitely a few suspicious moments for sure. Bizarre that I reran through that movie mentally just because of a random CC post when I haven't thought about it a VERY long time for more than a moment.

Yes, tithing was a part of the old law, but the old testament in Deut 16:17, says, Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessings of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.

I don't really respond to those who are arrogant, just ignore them. I don't really have the time to get into detailed arguments about things, though I think we can learn and sharpen each other. The teacher may impart knowledge, but its up to the student to apply it, not get spoonfed and accept everything the teacher says, but question it and work out their own salvation.

Otherwise you just giving people all the answers and they have no idea how they got them, and they just regurgitating other people's thoughts without really reflecting on the truth that God can reveal to them.

Thomas doubted, and expressed his doubt, and Jesus took the time to show Thomas to touch him to know that he was real and not a ghost. Jesus actually spent a lot of time telling the truth but not everyone believed him right away. And all those miracles took place so there would be no doubt that this was the son of God.

The Pharisees could never do that, they just had dead letters and long prayers that made people fall asleep.
