When I was a young boy I heard the terms "corporal and capital punishments," but got them confused. I had no idea what corporal punishment was other than it sounded similar. When the debate of whether or not corporal punishment should be allowed in schools, I was scared. What on earth did a kid need to do to be executed???

Discipline starts at home. Most parents are too soft. There is a distinction between physical abuse and discipline. In my generation, that line was sometimes crossed. But without discipline, some kids, especially boys, turn into monsters. Hence the narcissistic, entitled, snowflake generation that we put up with now.
Of course, this is a generalisation. Not all kids are monsters. However, when people are thinking of leaving a town because of child crime, it's out of hand. No it's not a city in the US. It's Australia. Some places are a warzone, ruled by kids too young to prosecute.
God says that we reap what we sow. Welcome to a society that thinks God knows nothing and it's OK to leave the rod of correction in the broom cupboard.
The drain on teachers is enormous. They have to be counselors, referees, behavioural therapists, deal with outraged parents and know the law better than the police. The cane is quick and effective. I know that from experience. Sure, after a certain age, it is not the answer. However, it sure works better than any other method. Why do you think God commanded physical discipline. "Spare the rod and damn the child".
I'll be 48 in January and we had sex in the 8th grade.
I wouldn't teach it to kindergarteners by the 8th grade most kids have already figured out these things.
And I'm guessing the advantage to oral sex is the girl doesn't get pregnant
The verse could refer to the shepherd's rod, not something like a cane. The shepherd doesn't beat his sheep, but guides and protects his sheep.
Physical discipline can easily cross over into abuse because the parent is unable to control his/her temper and emotions. An honest parent would admit he/she was abusive at times. It's these experiences that the child remembers for a lifetime, and this could even affect future relationships, etc. So, it is better to do away with physical discipline and find other measures.
Actually, for particularly wayward sheep, the shepherd would break the front legs of the animal. And then he would set and splint them, and carry the little one on his shoulders until the sheep healed. The sheep from that point forward seldom strayed.

Then there are the sexual predators as teachers.
I don't want them touching my child.... ever for any reason!
Hey, I got swats in school...it was never appropriate or equitably administered. Bias was always present. But it was always much better than the whooping I would get at home.
But in today's school system? I don't trust them whatsoever. The number of good teachers gets fewer every year and the good ones are getting replaced by transgender idiots who think perverted sexuality is a more important subject to be taught than math, reading, or writing.
And I'm to somehow trust these people with corporal punishment?
Unless they share in my value system there's not even a snowballs chance in hell of that happening. And the likelihood of them sharing in my value system is that same snowballs chance.

I appreciate your reply. But the Bible has many examples of how the people of God have been exercised by physical affliction to their spiritual improvement.

I remember my mom had written me a note I think it was I had to miss a day or something, recall exactly cuz that's been a lot of years. It was fourth grade. But what does stick out in my memory is this one teacher said I was lying and she was going to call my mother.
I told her to go ahead and call but I could assure her that conversation wouldn't go in her favor if my mother came up there
One teacher had a whole hissy fit because I got up to retrieve a dropped pencil without raising my hand and asking permission. So it was like we were in the military or something

For all the gender neutral peeps out there
My brother is a teacher here and he is having a tough time. You have to now go along with a student if they have changed their name or sex even though they can change their minds each week. One week they can be called Steve and be wearing male clothes and must be treated as Steve, the next week as Eve if they want to be known as Eve and are wearing female clothes. Aus has heavily embraced the whole binary unisex thing.
