Matthew 25:42 and how you vote

A Christian could easily vote this way and still be in favor of supporting the less fortunate. He or she may well accept the responsibility for caring for the poor but do not see it as the government's responsibility to do so.
It is not necessary for the government to support people on a national level. There are plenty of state governments who can decide such issues and traditionally it has been the church that has supported the poor. Because the church has failed to do so many people have turned to the government for help. And government has become their God.

For me, there's just not enough data in that statement to discern that it actually happened in real life.
It would be remarkable in its vagueness if it wasn't so commonplace.
Must be from some media outlet, I'd guess?

Can you show me the bill?
Can you talk about the riders that were most likely attached?
Can you produce the entire register of who voted to pass and who voted against and who abstained?

Did you just read this somewhere and assume it to be true?
There was a thing that I read once that goes something like this:

You can choose to pay attention to the media, and be misinformed;
or you can choose to not pay attention to the media and be uniformed.
Which are you? Misinformed, or Uninformed?
I choose to be uniformed... then I think that I make less mistakes.

I think the vast majority of argument in government is not about what to do- its not about whether or not to help the poor/etc. Its HOW we go about doing it. So if I vote against your proposal to send a rocket ship into space to go mine cheese from the moon to give to needy children, it's not because I hate needy children.

Andy Biggs, Colorado Rep. Ken Buck, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, Arizona Rep. Debbie Lesko, Illinois Rep. Mary Miller, and Texas Rep. Chip Roy.....but you're going to object because I didn't ALL 42. LOL This is a matter of congressional record. DO you still support their vote? Just answer me that. Do agree they should end the school lunch program? Will you take food away from children?

Yes...they were punished for a whole range of sins, not just one.
But your entire premise is wrong because God is not speaking about government. Your link of government to the care of the needy is not made by God but you.

Thanks for posting that partial list... I don't object that it's only partial, I appreciate any attempt when people are trying and doing their best!

You know John, it's a bit frustrating when a conversation is one-sided and also when someone isn't really listening to the other person. I've asked you, repeated several questions that you have seemingly ignored. Now you ask me if I am still doing something that I have never even talked about...?
It's becoming clear to me that you don't really want to have a conversation but rather just want to espouse your preconceived ideas and project them on me.

-you have Jesus criticizing the rich personally for neglecting their fellow Israelites, and he doesn't criticize the Sanhedrin for not having social welfare programs.
-Jesus criticizes the pharisees for their corban rule that circumvents family taking care of family. (not the government)
-Although Jesus disciples were communal for a while, I don't believe that was an indicator of how he would have ran the government had the temple/rulers submitted to Jesus: I think it was more a preparation for the evangelism that would need to occur from 33-70.
-The government descends further and further into chaos after they reject Jesus, and eventually the Sanhedrin is disbanded.
-The Jews who became Christians escape the destruction of Jerusalem.

With respect to the Assyrian/Babylonian captivity, the criticisms are similar. The land owners are not doing land sabbaths, and not leaving behind food that should be left available to the poor when they harvest. The leaders are drunken and perverting justice. Idolatry is everywhere- but no criticism for not having government welfare programs. The whole country is depraved and Isaiah says this:
Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.
