Why can’t i speak in tongues as a Christian

Its very strange how many folks focus on tongues but not prophecy or healings or miracles or faith.
The so called faith healers in the public eye that I know of are all charlatans, no one trys to do any miracles like Jesus did. I have never seen anyone say a word of knowledge.

charlatans seek personal glory, but those who see cancer diagnosis being dismissed or when compared images to images the spot has just vanished, or people going to court get a miraculous outcome, or someone needs something and it just materializes from nowhere those miracles and healing's are taking place every day. i've personally been involved in several where i was asked to pray and God answered it on behalf of others.

that's why i question peoples Denominations and Doctrines all the time when they aren't seeing God move. a sure sign they're in a DEAD ritualistic religion.

You consider it in context of all of scripture. So one event may not be prescriptive for all events.

Actually Magenta, Paul says that tongues is equal to prophesy when it is interpreted. Here is what I addressed in my post 172 and the same in another post previous to that. Sure we should be following the biblical guidelines but many do not.

I would that you all spoke with tongues but rather that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. (I Cor 12 and 14 are addressed to worship as believers together)

That, would actually put tongues on the same level as prophesying, as edification of the body was/is the goal and not using gifts, when in public, for your own benefit.

The emphasis is on understanding so that all are edified or built up.

Paul also said Forbid not to speak in tongues I Cor 14:39

I doubt very much that you know all people who have been healed by the Lord or how many have given a word of knowledge

I have given words of knowledge...that is knowing something that I could not know by human means.

There really is no use for yourself and others to continue to speak against the spiritual gifts; you are simply expressing your own unbelief....you have no idea what actually goes on in the life of a Spirit filled Christian who has experience with the gifts God Himself distributes to those who acknowledge what scripture states

In 1 Corinthians 13, people make the mistake of interpreting Paul’s hypothetical as a description
of the way things really are, whereas Paul is rebuking and correcting the Corinthians.
