Then do you love money? I tell you what, give all of your money to the poor and keep nothing but your faith in Jesus Christ. If you don't love your money give it away, as you don't need it. If you love God and people so much, give away your money and go out into the world and preach Jesus Christ, and live on that faith in the Lord to provide your needs.

I tell you the truth, many people love money, and as long as things are fine they are fine, but as soon as things get tough they show that they are thieves and murders like others. Pit money against Jesus Christ, and see which one will last longer.

Definitely going to disagree and say that the bible does teach that we don't need money.
"Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"
The bible clearly teaches that even the birds who don't sow or reap or gather into barns are fed by what? Money? That's the whole point of this. They're fed by God and God alone. God can take care of you without money, the same way he will take care of you without money in heaven.

I spent months on the street without money and God always provided for me as long as I had faith that He would. I believe that money is only needed to live comfortably. I understand that people have families and children and money is required to raise children: diapers, baby food, shots, ect. it is almost like entering a binding contract until your children are grown.
As a young single man without children though, I know that I can just go out in faith without money or any thought for what I shall eat or wear or where I will sleep, If I keep my focus on God he will give me whatever I need, exactly when I need it. This has already been confirmed in my life.

I need neither this computer, nor electricity nor internet. But with it, I use it to tell people about Jesus. And without it, I would still tell people about Jesus.
As my friend above said, people use money to live comfortably, but do the poor need money? They need the Lord. Do the animals need money? They need the Lord. Solomon had more riches than anyone ever has and will, but at the end of it he knew it was vanity and vexation of spirit. Yet, the lilies in the field are clothed better than he ever was. All creation is by faith and through faith of God.
Also, the just live by faith, not by money.

But I believe that falling in the extremes is not good.
Saying that having money is bad is foolish. But saying that money is all that we need is even more foolish.
God gave us skills to work and survive. Being prosperous is a blessing from God, but being prosperous is not as good as being righteous, humble, wise, and God fearing. Money is good, and I think God gives us money because He loves us . At the same time, He can take away our money when He sees it's gonna harm us.
If money is hindering you from being righteous,humble, wise and holy, maybe it is bad.
If you know who is your priority and money doesn't blur your eyes, it's a blessing from God and you should be thankful to Him.

Yes, you are very right. Everything you said is true.
The times we are in are extreme times. Yet, for the world it is subtle. It is true that we must forsake ALL things for his name's sake. There will be a day when we have to choose whether we love our lives (cars, houses, possessions, breathe), or whether we choose Jesus. If we choose our lives we will be cut off from Jesus, who is eternal life. These are extreme times. Let's look for that eternal prosperity that cannot corrode, nor can it be stolen. Let our riches be in heaven.

In those scriptures, Jesus meant that we shouldn't WORRY about money.
You cannot live without money. Even the missionaries need money for food and clothing. How are you supposed to acquire the basic necessities in this life without money unless you are like an animal living in the wilderness hunting your own food and making your own clothes. I can't even believe I am having to say this.
Anyone with half a brain knows you need money to survive in this world.

What's bothering me about this thread is it seems unless you say something like 'YES ALL MONEY IS EVIL SO I DON'T HAVE ANY AND I DON'T NEED ANY AND MONEY PLAYS NO PART IN MY LIFE,' then it is assumed that you must worship money.
You know, it's hard to tithe and be charitable when you're unemployed, homeless and starving.

HaHaHa. What about this, next time you go to the mall, buy something for someone who has no clothes and give it to them. Then you will be on the right track to laying up those riches in heaven.
Remember this, that it is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven, YET!!! With God, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!!!

What people call charity today is just an outward display of their niceness and has nothing to do with love. Even then it is not for niceness but for some type of image they want to portray.
Charity is preaching the gospel to the poor homeless, and widows. It is charity because as money will not save a soul from hell, the gospel of Jesus Christ will. Money doesn't fund the gospel. I am sure this is preached today, but for the sake of people who have no power. Peter had no money to give to the lame man, but he did have the Power of God. What has it all come to.

Ha. Then I must have no brain. Because I am 100% sure I don't need money to survive in this world. Money can't buy rain, nor can it tell the seasons when to come and go. Yet people trust in money yet without the sun they would die. In a famine they would starve. In a drought they would thirst. But not so to those in Christ, because he is provision for them in deserts and in wildernesses.
Nope, money is a tool for bondage more than anything. But if I have money I would use it for the right reasons, like giving it to people who need it more than I do. I understand more now why Jesus had the following conversation:
13 ¶And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.
14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Cæsar, or not?

On the flip side for all those who are saying "Oh the poor don't need anything but the love of Jesus." Get real!

I am not saying we should not share the gospel, but that we should attend the gospel by our actions. I don't know where we got the idea that Spreading the word gets us of the hook for sacrificial giving.

My example of the mall was about when I want to buy ridiculously expensive things that are the same as a cheap or regular price thing. For instance, I may want to buy a beautiful purse made of gold or something like that , but if I know that I don't really need it, I'd spend my money wisely in things I do need and buy a regular beautiful purse instead.
There were poor and rich prophets in the Bible, so I don't think money by itself is bad, or having it.
What is bad is thinking that all is about money. God is generous, so He gives us money, and likewise, He wants us to be generous with it. We should all agreee that money is good, but disagree with the thought that it is ALL that we need. And money comes from God, so we should gain it by righteousness and true effort, so we can be blessed with it
I agree with you that Jesus provides if you have faith and you are righteous, but God doesn't want us to be lazy and stay sit at home waiting for Him to throw us food or clothes . I'm not saying He can't do that because He certainly can and will do it if He wants to, but then work wouldn't be necessary, and I don't see God ever commanding us to not work.
