Is it just my perspective or are there a lot of people that expend a lot of time and energy on end time prophecy and is it worth putting any time and energy into such seemingly nonproductive endeavor?

God put end time prophecy in His Book for a reason.
Revelation 1
1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

I am in Chicago and if I watch WJYS christian tv, a lot of programs seem to focus on prophecy. Particularly when they used to have Jim Bakker programming. At least he is no longer on.
Its in the Bible for a reason. I think the primary subject of the Bible is Jesus and that eschatology should not supersede the gospel. Which seems to be the case for many. But Jesus warned for us to be busy about the tasks he has given us because we dont know when he will come. But when he does come we need to be found doing what he tasked us to do.

I try to avoid teaching of prophecy because my first introduction to "Christianity" was with Worldwide Church of God and it seems like that was their only concern and it sure seems to me that they were not teaching the Gospel according to the Bible.
it’s there because we are supposed to watch for it so we understand how true it really is
if we hear about it forst and later we see it happen it’s meant to convince us

that’s what prophecy is God announcing the future of his creation from the beginning and when it happens as it always does it’s meant to convict us that the rest he’s foretold is also just as true it’s meant to give us eyesight so we can watch

The ot prophets were always talking about the end times the end of the world and then the apostles revealed more for the intent that we aren’t left in the dark
a big part of saving us is informing us of what’s ahead but will we hear and believe and start opening our eyes to it ?

yes many don’t understand prophecy but it’s not the prophecy that’s the issue it’s not understanding it and thinking we do so then we go amok with our doctrine
if we are centered on the gospel it brings all things to light forminstance my point is like this example

my point regarding end times prophecy is it works the same way prophecy and fulfillment is what the Bible is based upon to prove to us his words are always true and infallible even if it takes a thousand years to be fulfilled ot will be fulfilled as he spoke it

if we see how what God said comes to pass like that it’s going to create faith in what he has said that’s yet to come we can watch for those things and it keeps us awake because we see it approaching it’s a motivator and creates fear when we stray a bit so we return quickly

Makes me think Amish. They are still living like the NOW-in-Christ as you put it. I just recently realized that. Before coming on this site I was almost certain that the Amish were the "People of The Book". They are just persisting in the ways of their European Heritage. I watched every video about them I could find and they are a prime target of a lot of "evangelizers" including former Amish. My still skeptical nature makes me wonder about "evangelizers". That is a whole other kettle of 153 fish. But these preachers that talk nothing but prophecy, think Jim Bakker Show here, seem like a lot of nonsense to someone like me who was totally antagonistic toward anything to do with God for most of my life. Does God let a few fall between the cracks? I now know there is a scripture that says, (my paraphrase), 'of all that You have given Me I will lose none'. How does that jive?

34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
That's the reason. But the desire to do so comes from the heart to BLT - believe God, love God, trust God.
Jesus said many will turn away from Him in the end because they were not prepared for what is coming. You can't prepare for something you don't know and don't understand

God said He identifies Himself as the one true God by showing us the end from the beginning and said that no other person or religion can do that.
Which God showed us the whole history of mankind on earth all the kingdoms on earth starting with Egypt to the 7th kingdom the 10 horn kingdom which is the world split in to 10 sections with a leader in each section which will continue for a short space which is three and one half years and the 8th king is the New Age Christ, antichrist, who will rule for three and one half years.
The 7th king is the next kingdom to come which the nations will come together as one to try to work for peace on earth.

God warns the saints of the new age movement that interprets the Bible according to the occult and evolution, and people are still evolving to be spiritual and godlike, and Jesus is not Lord and Savior but a good teacher and love and evolved to be a an ascended master, and do not acknowledge a personal God but honor the God of forces or the power of nature as their higher power the evolutionary process, and the New Age Christ is the final teacher.
2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

When the New Age Christ starts working in the world he will be considered a great man of peace and the biggest player on the world scene and he will push the agenda of the new age movement until the world rebels against God and then He will end sin on earth.
When the New Age Christ is working in the world it will be the time the world will not want to hear the truth of the Bible but want to hear it according to the new age movement which all religions are interpreted by the new age movement and nothing can be preached contrary to the new age movement.
The book of Revelation is a warning to the world to get right with God to escape these things that shall come upon the earth and be with God.
Prophesy is a way to show that the God of Israel is the true God because He showed us what shall happen before it happened.
It is because of the new age movement that the world rebels against God and evolving to be spiritual and godlike and there is no personal God is the arrogance and self exaltation of them which they will say I am and there is no one else beside me.
So to understand prophesy is easy for it is the new age movement for it is the reason the world rebels against God causing what happens in Revelation.
A person does not have to understand in detail every thing that shall happen in order until the world rebels against God but just know not to follow them for there is a personal God and Jesus is Lord and Savior.
God will not give up on the world until the world gives up on Him so He is giving the world 7 years to have their way and go against the truth and then He will end sin on earth.
The 10 horn kingdom will rule for the first three and one half years but they will fail at providing peace on earth, and then the world accepts the New Age Christ as the solution to have peace on earth and when they follow the New Age Christ and take his mark then repentance and salvation are no longer available to them and God will end sin on earth.
During the 7 years period the world took away the hope of the world for they stopped the preaching of the Gospel and the truth of the Bible on a world wide level all nations governments supporting it.
The new age movement and the world will think they are prospering and winning against their enemies and that their kingdom shall prosper and flourish but they do not understand that God is allowing them to have their way for 7 years and go against the truth so He can end sin on earth.

I seem to recall hearing the term, 'New Age', around 1989 in Fullerton, Ca. Is that the time when an organization of some type showed up and gave themselves that name? Seems there was some 'store' near Harbor Blvd. & Imperial Hwy.. Fuzzy memory on this, just started AA ---Aug 1989.

The new age movement has been around for longer than that with Alice Bailey the biggest prophet of the new age movement writing about the coming one world government and religious system and the New Age Christ back in the 1930's and she admired a woman from the 1800's Helena Blavatsky which was an occultist and a mystic and co-founded the Theosophical Society which is what Alice Bailey teaches.
Alice Bailey taught that there was an inner circle and an outer circle of the occult and the inner circle is the true church and was married to a Freemason who agreed with her teachings so he is part of the inner circle of Freemasonry.
They set up a web site to publish Alice Bailey's books and writings and shows so whatever is on the web page is what the new age movement is all about which is lucistrust.org.

They are setting up a kingdom for the worship of Lucifer and believe he will help them to evolve to be spiritual and godlike and have peace on earth.
That is the plan now and why they teach evolution in school for they have a new perspective on reality and they want to establish this reality in the world.
They interpret the Bible differently now so things will change because of this.
The nations are working together more than people realize but they do not want the world to know that.
North Korea, Ukraine war, is all a scare tactic to try to drive the world together.
Controlled conflict brings about controlled change.
Like WW1, League of Nations, and WW2, United Nations, to try to get the nations to cooperate for peace to stop the fighting between people, and they will continue that pattern until the nations come together as one to try to work for peace on earth.
They do not believe the New Age Christ will help them to evolve and have peace on earth until the nations come together as one to try to work for peace on earth so they are working on that.
But it is the trick of the devil to try to get the nations to come together to rebel against God.
Which we see videos and articles about people having proof of seeing UFOS because the new age movement is going to convince the world that aliens want to help mankind transition to a world of peace and believe aliens are on earth right now to help mankind to have peace on earth.
These people are so arrogant and self exalting that they want to believe they are still evolving to be spiritual and godlike for the occult is the most self exalting and dangerous belief system in the history of mankind which is trying to get as much power through nature to be greater to have power and control over other people.
But they will not evolve for it is all their imagination which is why God said they will follow fables but it will make sense to all the people that follow the new age movement because they believe in evolution.
