I hear preachers using part of these verses to say something like 'listen up! I have gone to all the trouble to pick out which verses go with which verses so you don't need trouble yourselves and I present you with line upon line and deliver to you the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me King James'. The whole passage seems to be more of an indictment of their antagonism towards God.

My first reaction would be "amateur cult leader."

Isaiah 28:9-14

9Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. 10For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: 11For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.13But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. 14Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

How so? I though preachers were supposed to quote Scripture. Do you dislike preachers in general then?

I have gotten bad advice, little advice, no advice, reluctant advice, deceptive advice and nonsense advice from the preachers I have talked to. I find they are generally self absorbed with their own claims to fame or planning for their retirement.

Generally, yes. It has always been so. The problem is with the persons, not the position. These types of men rise to preeminence and fame because they are sought out by those who will pay to have their ears tickled.

Matthew 7
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

There are Preachers that have been called by God to preach the gospel. You just haven't run across any of them.

If they admit they're presenting you with their line on God's line and their precept on God's precepts...

Well... at least they're being honest. Heh.

Matthew 7
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Written almost 2000 years ago

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:3-

as the world progresses like this they need Bible teachers that will reassure them

The op reminds me so much of this which also seems to be a perfect description of our present world and those in it

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3:1-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

With the decline of truth in the church would come the desire for teachers approving of sinful lifestyles “ your saved anyways don’t worry about what God said in the gospel and sent to all people you don’t need to do anything he said your saved by grace no repentance required eat drink and be merry for you are saved “

there’s certain who desire this message and yes they are paid extravagantly to spew it to the masses one of the main people today is the richest pastor in the world banking over 500 million dollars for himself

by preaching a message that claims your already saved and nothing you can do will change it . It’s sort of like if your looking at some fruit God said will kill you and someone says “ no that’s not true it will actually make you wise “

they were already looking at the fruit and wondering they just needed a nudge and reassurance so very subtle and clever is his deception but so very deadly and ridiculous when you understand it’s saying “ don’t believe what God told you , listen to my explaination instead “

Seems they are putting down Isaiah and God by mocking him for teaching God's word. If today's preachers would actually teach the bible chapter by chapter and verse by verse, the people would actually hear the words of God rather than the words of men.

I just finished reading the story of Nadab and Abihu. Those who claim to be in the service of YHWH need to be very careful, they will be held to a higher standard.
