• Ex 20:8-10 . . Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you
shall labor and do all your work,but the seventh day is the sabbath of The
Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your
daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle,
nor your stranger who is within your gates.
The law of the sabbath is very unforgiving. Whoever fails to obey it has to be
executed as a capital criminal; no exceptions.
• Ex 31:14-15 . . You shall keep the sabbath, for it is holy for you. He who
profanes it shall be put to death: whoever does work on it, that person shall
be cut off from among his kin. Six days may work be done, but on the
seventh day there shall be a sabbath of complete rest, holy to the Lord;
whoever does work on the sabbath day shall be put to death.
There are religious adherents for whom the sabbath is a day of obligation.
Seeing as how it's illegal in most jurisdictions to execute someone for religious
reasons, how then might this particular death penalty be practiced? is there
an acceptable alternative to execution?
