I understand signs and wonders being for the disciples and apostles time, being foundational and not needed for now.. but the commission definitely continues today.

Not so. God doesn’t change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb, 13.8). Some people speak out of unbelief and out of personal experience, and they use their feeble excuses which amounts to sinful unbelief just to in the clear.

There is nothing in the scriptures that state that signs and wonders were done by the apostles and disciple only. Is God indifferent to our pain? He doesn’t care anymore.

For any cessationist, they still hold to God doing miracles and healing by His will. That hasn't changed.

They are very rare, but God still does.

The sign gifts though are a different matter. They were foundational.. associated with an immature Christianity that didn't have what we now do.

The other thing is Jesus being the same yesterday, today and forever, isn't about the gifts, but the surety of His promises and second coming.

The Great Commission to tell all nations about Jesus Christ and the ministry of reconciliation are two different aspects of the same job description. They are not contradictory, but complementary.

Sorry, I don't buy the interpretation that Matt. 28:18-20 does not apply to the church today.

Do you obey this? Do you teach all that Christ taught? He taught to go see a priest and offer a sacrifice for healing. He taught against self-defense. If thy right hand offend thee, cut it off. I could go on and on...

You make one huge mistake in your analysis. Jesus did not command anyone to go and teach to show yourself to the priest (Matt 8:4)

It shows you have no idea what Jesus is doing, nor do you understand his teaching.

The leper Jesus healed would have been an outcast. This poor man would have been excluded from society and even his family life because of his illness. Can you imagine what that would be like.

In healing this man Jesus was not only showing his power and authority over illness and bringing healing(Matt 11:5; Isa 35:5-6), He was showing compassion to the outcast of society. Jesus telling the healed Leper to show himself to the priest would have allowed him to join back in and function within society and be with his family (if he had any).


So what is the lesson?

Its twofold. The first is that Jesus is indeed the Christ (Messiah), and secondly he has compassion, he makes clean the unclean ( thats a very short to the point answer).

Therefore we as his disciples are to have compassion, especially to the outcasts of society and bring the teachings and doings of Jesus to them, the word that makes them clean.

The Apostle Paul was given an abundant revelations that had never been taught before. These revelations were given to him by Jesus Christ. Over and over scripture tells the body of Christ to follow Paul.

1 Corinthians 4:16-17 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. 17 For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.

1 Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Philippians 3:17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
