Be honest do you like violence
eg

watching fights
or blood sports
shooting guns
anything involving being hurt, blown up or killing?

I just wonder what the appeal is. I mean ok maybe it shows you are tough and big and strong but who is looking after the injured and wounded, or is it a badge of honour to have a black eye and your teeth knocked out?

Full transparency.. I watch stuff like snapped, dateline or documentaries like, I killed my dad. I always know when my Mama is watching that kind of stuff too much, because she starts texting me...are your doors locked, lol. I don't know if this applies. I like super hero movies, even the transformers, lol. They have violence. I don't think it means I like violence, but maybe action, hmmmm. I wonder.

Do I like violence?

As an 80s kid growing up with Rambo and Chuck Norris and Arnold, violence was something we laughed at and enjoyed with friends on TV. So you could say that I liked it.
But as a kid you have no real and deep understanding of what violence is or what it means , so it remained something cool which we watched on TV, separate from reality.
So the cool factor was the appeal.

As I grew older I didn’t like TV violence anymore. So the coolness factor was gone. Violence seemed stupid most of the time in movies and especially since I knew more about violence in the real world.

Video games were attractive and cool and some still are and some of them I still enjoy to his day.
Games like Metal Gear Solid 5 for example, which I used to play a lot and now I’m playing again with my son.

So the human condition is an evolving process.
But I’ve never ever liked violent sports including boxing [Mike Tyson was big in my day and I’ve never watched him] and I’ve never liked guns. In fact I’ve always hated guns. I guess even as a 5-7 year old kid, I could understand the line between fantasy and reality.

I wonder just cos its on tv do young ppl think its fantasy or funny when news shows all the time people,being killed, harmed and injured. Its real life not an entertainment show.

I wonder when they will understand that if they kill someone, they stay dead and someone will have to clean up the mess (blood and guts) and bury the bodies. Or if they are injured how much medical treatment that person will need. maybe for the rest of their life.

On video games and movies/tv shows consequences of violence are not really shown. somehow people just dont get hurt, or they dont REALLY cry or anything. Or if they do cry, its pretty onion crying not real UGLY crying. The blood splatters in a controlled way its not the real life stuff, just strawberry jam

I havent looked into why fortnite is the number one game
I can see the appeal of Roblox though...making or creating your own games but I dont understand the violent nature of Fortnite

violence is boring to me doesnt get me excited at all. A fight or battle scene in a movie puts me to sleep. Im like so they hate each other...so what?! My solution would be to seprate them so they dont end up killing each other..which is what ppl do when they divorce pretty much

at least nobody suggest a food fight like they do in american movies.

Anyway I dont have pillows in the library I have cushions and they dont really want to fight. I think they can be a bit lazy but they prefer to be cuddled and read to.

I will have to think of something to counteract these violent tendencies. But what?

so far Ive got puppets but the Punch and Judy routine gets old pretty fast.

Kids are very good at breaking stuff that isnt bolted down. The room next to the library is kind of like a jail cell with bars on the windows lol.

I have done an escape room but I thought it would be too complicated to do it in school, need a lot of padlocks etc. We did do a lockdown drill once and I had to hide everyone behind the shelves and lock the doors, but I forgot to lock one door (its now labelled which way to lock it) so the serial killers/shooters could have just walked in and shot us all...

Have you ever walked out of a movie if its too violent.

If threres a fighting scene or too many people killing each other, I just get up and walk out. I remember I could not tolerate the Hunger Games. I thought it was pointless.

I spent most of the movie heading to the lobby waiting for it to be over. My friend at the time had her eyes glued to it, and she had dragged me to see it. I learned to check beforehand if anyone was asking me to see a movie I didnt really want to see and just say I think I will pass. So the next time she asked to see some assassins film I just said no thanks. Find another friend.

Another friend said she felt uncomfortable watching James Bond movies with her husband and hated the experience. But she had agreed to see what er one he chose. and then beat herself up for going to see it with him. he was like we dont have to watch this if you dont want to but she stayed and was grossed out I mean literally it made her sick to witness all the violence.

I remember my brothers would pause the part in Gone with the Wind where Scarlett shot the yankee. Im not sure why they were fascinated though in the movie it was pretty much point blank range.

The movie mercifully did NOT show Scarlett getting raped but the before and aftermath of it, though the worst was when Scarlett fell down the stairs ...Rhett didnt actually push her but he was just callous enough to want to.

Scarlett also slapped Prissy though this was mostly sound effects. Otherwise the impact of the movie wasnt in any battle scenes but just the all the wounded soldiers ...there were so many that southerners quipped if theyd had that many they would have won the war.

Scarlett whipping the horse till he died thougn was not fun to watch. There was also the scene where Scarlett wtinesses and amputation at the hospital. For a movie all about war, maybe it was tame...and I supoose not politcally correct now to even watch it. But I think because it was not the kind of gratuitous violence and telling a story based on a version of history that was understandable then I could handle it.

whereas Hunger Games was like what is this even about and who even cares?
