Those two passages do not contradict each other. And thus one does not negate the other.

A question for you.
Many years ago I had the opportunity to lead a teenager to the Lord while he was in the hospital.
It was impossible for him to leave his bed and be baptized.
He died a year later.
Where is his soul today?
Kinda funny all the people who don’t just agree with everything the Bible says about water baptism. If the Bible says that baptism saves then it must save in some way.
How come the people who greatly minimize or reject water baptism never just agree that it saves and is required?

Romans 10: 6 and 7 clearly say thats not with in my position to say.
I certainly hope he is with Christ.
However there is correlation between the two passages of scripture that we posted to each other.

The scripture clearly states many times that baptism saves. It is also a directive to us from Christ himself. That however does not exclude that there can be salvation without baptism. There certainly is which is also backed up by scripture.
Why are we so obtuse that we cant accept the whole of scripture? Baptism saves. And still yet there can also be salvation with out baptism.
Part two of this is with the exception of extenuating circumstances why would a person who believes not get baptised? This would be disobedience and possibly a sign that there isnt saving faith present. Mind you I said with the exception of extenuating circumstances.

I think people reject water baptism because they don’t understand what it does exactly. “Baptism saves” is a true statement but it’s often met with opposition and fear.
People are quite fragile and will lash out to protect themselves, though vainly striving against the truth. I try to keep a spirit of sympathy when dealing with people here.
so how does water baptism save exactly? 1 Peter 3:21 says it directly: by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I believe water baptism is necessary for salvation of the body in the resurrection, but salvation of the soul comes from God who responds to our work of faith.
