The Book of Mormon.🤔😆
Curious though. Is there a verse that states expressly, repent of your sins? You'd think so.
As many preachers as I heard use that phrase, you'd think they were quoting Scripture.
Like you, I heard that all of my life from Catholics, Protestants, many Evangelicals and some Baptists.
Repentance is a long study, but we'll worth the time. Those ministers owe it to the people to study to show themselves approved and to teach the right gospel... Galatians 1
Back at the University, I had a campus pastor who taught works salvation. He taught that salvation required faith in Christ PLUS changing your way of life/ turning from all your sins/ repent of your sins...basic Works"salvation.'
He gave me his sermon notes for proof.
I went the extra mile and studied every use of the terms repent and repentance as it pertains to eternal salvation. Every use of the term repent that HE used for "proof texts" either...
1. Applied to those already saved, having the gift of eternal life OR
2. He added to the word Repent the words "of your sins" or read that into the meaning.
The Book of Mormon certainly adds many works required for their salvation. Turning from all sins is just one category of works they add.
But we know that the Bible consistently makes these clear statements.
Titus 3:5
"
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost..."
Ephesians 2
"
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
