No kidding about Nashville....it's a disaster.
They have had reasonable road/traffic engineers to advise them how to fix the mess....but they got fired because they told them things they didn't want to hear.
So Nashville traffic is a mess.
If you are traveling east to west or vice versa...there's a bypass that is more than beneficial....Even though it appears that it will take longer. It won't. It will save lots of time. Not miles.
The north to southern routes like 65 or 24....you are stuck. There are some side highways but those are confusing to everyone as well because of the signs.
You definitely need GPS to travel through. And expect to be stuck in lots of traffic. Lots and lots of bumper to bumper traffic going 2 mph.

I can't take it having to make constant split-second decisions on whether I am in the proper lane heading to the correct exit. My wife drove though Nashville a few years ago heading back from Michigan going to Florida. I insisted on being a passenger that time. She seemed to enjoy the challenge. Even though I was a passenger, I hit the pretend brakes many times and turned the pretend steering wheel too. Maybe my nerves are finally shot.
have made the round trip from Orlando, FL to Lansing, MI at least 8 or 9 times through the years. My recommendation is to avoid I24 at all costs. There is this place called Wartrace that it snakes around through. Very steep inclines and downslopes and curvy. If you're not careful you could easily drive through the guardrail and go down the mountain. A white-knuckle ride for sure.
