The Vital Importance Of Forgiving Others
King James Bible John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
It very well may simply mean that they didn't repent. My struggles with forgiveness have been, even when I forgive, my opinion of that person doesn't change (depending on the issue). Does that mean I did not forgive?
I think that is a good question. I would say no, you haven't in your heart forgiven them. I don't know though. However, maybe it is the action itself you are not forgiving. It is such a conundrum. Are you praying for them with a sincere heart, hoping good things for them. I don't know, but I think forgiveness is a process in our emotions. I always pray, Lord help my thoughts and emotions line up with You. He knows we struggle, He knows we r trying. The sea of forgetfulness is not ours but maybe He can help us to forgive way down deep. I will say chosing to distance yourself from harmful situations does not mean you aren't forgiving them. I think in your heart you know... you know if more work, in regards to the forgiveness, needs to happen. My struggles with forgiveness have been, even when I forgive, my opinion of that person doesn't change (depending on the issue). We need to forgive from the heart, not just from the mind. God sees why people do things, not just what they do. We rarely have that kind of insight. Unforgiveness is toxic to out relationship with God, others and even ourselves. We do need an honest view of people. My fiancee met a woman at a course she was doing. They became friendly. The woman is/was a churchgoer. She stopped answering the phone. It seemed a little odd, but people are what they are. However, we discovered why she went dark on us. She's serving a prison term for fraud. While we would not reject her if she contacted us again, we would be wary, especially as it's not her first time behind bars.I guess my point is, once you forgive, it doesn't necessarily mean you will have a positive view of that person. Does forgiveness mean having a positive view of that person? Let's say you have a schemer "friend", for example, you can forgive but that doesn't change your opinion of that person.
