Phoneman-777 said: What does Paul mean by "not the hearers of the law but the doers of the law shall be justified in His sight" and what does John mean by "make not mistake, he that does righteousness IS righteous"?

Guys, Paul was teaching that those who obey the entire law of Moses would be justified. However, Paul also wrote this, in the same epistle:

Rom 3:9,10
9 What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin.
10 As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one;
20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

So, Paul was teaching that no one can earn salvation. All are sinners.
Agree with what you wrote FreeGrace.

I was just pointing out that the word, 'law', means the entire law not just the ten commandments.

I hold to the fact, that we are saved by grace through faith... (Ephesians 2:8)

This is what God has told us regarding those that call upon the Lord.

Romans 10:13
For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Do you believe what is written?

John was referring to the believer's born again human spirit, which is what cannot sin.
This would mean everyone is saved, for its our flesh, not our spirit which sins.
That was my point. Man sins from his human nature, NOT his born again human spirit, where the Holy Spirit resides.

Do you believe everyone is saved?
I am very concerned about your reasoning skills here. Where in the world would that question come from??

NO NO NO, many more will be cast into the lake of fire than get to heaven. Is that clear?

Do you understand that believers have 2 natures, on the basis of being born again? They still have their human (sinful) nature, and they have a new born again nature?

Do you understand what Paul was talking about in Gal 5:16-17?

I hope everyone understands that "calling on the Name of the Lord" refers to putting your full trust in the Person and Work of Jesus Christ.

That's not implied. He said the believers born again spirit - that would only apply universally if everyone is born again regardless of unbelief.

Tell me, How do you know you are saved?
John 5:24
“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life

John 17:3
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent

1 John 5:13
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life

Romans 10:9-13
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[e] 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Ephesians 1:13
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise

Philippians 1:6
being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ

Hebrews 10:14
For by one offering He has perfectedforever those who are being sanctified.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should

Titus 3:5
not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit

Hebrews 11
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen

Romans 10:17
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God

Titus 1:2
in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began

this is just. Begining of the promises I trust in

I agree, but folks need to understand the bible says we need to do some work too. And the reason we need to do that work. And No, I am not talking about the Law of Moses. I am referring to the Law of Christ, that Law mentioned, which does not referring to the Law of Moses.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Okay...I und that. I used to believe the same thing.
So basically you just THINK you know what I said and what I meant. Then mock me in your post? (No I do not just BELIEVE I am saved. If that was all I did. Then I would have no assurance, I would always question)

you seriously worry me. I wonder if you have faith at all. It appears to me (i could be wrong) that your faith is in yourself and your righteousness not in God and his promises.

The passages I posted show us not only how we are saved. But how trustworthy God is.

If you want conditional life. Feel free to believe in that.

I will place my faith and ASSURANCE in Christ and his promises.. As John said, it is my KNOWLEDGE I HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. That empowers me to continue to believe

far to many people want to push works.. They ignore the passages I posted and some I did not post. And want to focus on passages like James. James came against people who CLAIMED to have faith. Who had mere belief, yet did not actually repent and come to true living faith in God. Hence the reason they HAD NO WORKS..

Works do not prove salvation. And they should not give anyone assurance. many people will have many works, and on that day they will try to state their case of all the works they did in Jesus name. And jesus will say depart from me for I never knew you

If you think you are sinless. John said you are decieved. Your in a dangerous spot. God can no longer work in your life (if you are saved) because you think you are something you are not. And you live a life excusing the sin you do struggle with, all the while denying they are even sin.

No..I wasn’t mocking you. I was trying to see if I understood, which is why asked you the question.

I’m not one of those people who makes fun of peoples beliefs. Nor do I stoop to such childish behavior. All Beliefs are founded on something, and I am curious about those foundations.

And the bottom line is…You have no tangible sign…just your belief. It’s because Gods promise, but it still requires you to believe it.
Read your post again and there is no sign of salvation given other than your belief.

And this is why you are angry, you couldn’t give a definitive sign of salvation, other than you believe you are saved.

If that is your conclusion after reading EG's long list of how he knows he is saved, then you really don't "und" that at all.

Salvation is through faith, which EVERY verse made clear.

So there is NO WAY a person can be saved BEFORE they are saved. That doesn't make any sense, and EG never said that.

Not for salvation, it doesn't. I DO believe Eph 2:8 AND 9 (not of works)

And the reason we need to do that work.
The reason is for reward and blessing. NEVER for salvation.

And No, I am not talking about the Law of Moses. I am referring to the Law of Christ, that Law mentioned, which does not referring to the Law of Moses.
The "Law of Christ" is for believers, saved and justified children of God, to obey Him.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:2)
There is nothing in this (or any other) verse that says salvation is by fulfilling the "law of Christ".

this is the part where I see you mocked me.. If you did not put this in your response. I could MAYBE see you were just asking a question

I am not angry, there you go assuming again. Frustrated, maybe.. That you still show you have no comprehension of what I have been saying to you. But angry?? no

I’m not one of those people who makes fun of peoples beliefs. Nor do I stoop to such childish behavior. All Beliefs are founded on something, and I am curious about those foundations.
I gave you my foundation. My foundation is

1. The word
2. Christ
3. The promises made in the word and Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:11
For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

My faith is in Christ, and his promises. Not on self. and how good I am or think I am..

And the bottom line is…You have no tangible sign…just your belief. It’s because Gods promise, but it still requires you to believe it.
Read your post again and there is no sign of salvation given other than your belief.
So does God need a sign? Why do you need a sign? If I went to church 5 times a week. Got baptized, Tithe, serve the poor. do all these great works. does that prove I am saved?

The answer is no..

I tries to show you this in my post. showing how even people will go to God with all their works. and how they mean nothing..

I am not saved by works of righteousness which I have done. I am saved by grace THROUGH faith. perio.

But you are still looking for a sign?

Did not Jesus say an adulterous and wicked generation seeks after a sign?

If you ask someone what sign they have that they are saved, and they start spouting off a bunch of works.. Walk away from that person. Pray for them. Because salvation is not based on our works. how good we are (we will never be good enough)

it is based on the promise of God

one more time. If you claim you are sinless. You are deceived. Those are johns words not mine. Please stick to that..

trying to use that I have no sign I am saved as a reason to ignore what John said, and not discuss it (to discredit me, if this is what you are doing) is not going to work.. You have to explain whay both John and James told us, as children of God. to confess our sins to God and to each other..

Jesus is my Sabbath rest :)

For whoever enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His.
You seem to think that since Jesus is our rest, we are free to break the commandment to rest on Sabbath.

Jesus is our truth...so, are we free to break the commandment that forbids lying?

Jesus is our reward...so, are we free to break the commandment that forbids theft?

Jesus is our life, so are we free to break the commandment which forbids killing others or ourselves?

Jesus is our "Everlasting Father", so are we free to break the commandment which forbids dishonoring our parents?

Jesus didn't die on the Cross to grant anyone a OSAS License to Sin :)

I looked it up in the dictionary to see why UND was so offensive, but couldn't find it. Is it a derogatory slang word?

Jesus is the Author of Salvation, and you completely ignore his teachings of Salvation.
With this said, Is Jesus the student..or the Master teacher? Your answer is obviously Jesus, but look at your salvation teachings. Do they actually show Jesus to be the Author of Salvation?
Can you teach, what you believe, by only using the Masters teachings? If you can't, you have made Paul the Author of your Salvation.

one of the main judeaizer tricks- try to make Paul contradict Jesus.

Paul was Jesus's handpicked guy to carry the Gospel to the gentiles.
