I will smoke a cigarette or two in social situations. I'm not a regular smoker. Can I be a Christian and be an occasional smoker. With all the Covid stuff, an occasional cigarette is relaxing.

Oh you heretic YOU!

Look, it's the scientists who say it's an evil thing. There is no scripture saying "Thou shalt not use tobacco "

Look....even Jesus was accused of being a drunk because He drank wine.

It's not what goes into your body that makes you evil but what comes out of your heart.

Is there sin in a ham and cheese sandwich?
Only if it's missing sweet pickles, mayonnaise and mustard in my house.

Don't let these legalistic church members get to ya!

Eww. Why would you want to?

Actually it's not the cigarette calming you. The calming effect smokers feel is the craving being sated, but there first needs to be an increase in anxiety, from the craving. It's a viscious cycle.

Even smoking casually it is not the cigarette that is calming, but rather your change in breathing. Humans are meant to breath deeply, yet in more developed countries peoples breathing tends to become more shallow.
Think when someone gets anxious and they are told to take deep breaths and hold them. These deep breathing techniques have a calming effect.
Now picture smoking a cigarette, taking deep breaths and holding them.
It's not the cancerous smoke that when your body is first exposed to it tries to push out because it recognizes its not healthy, that calms you. It's the deep breathing.
So if you need to calm down forget the gross, bad smelling cancer stick and try taking those deep breaths without it.

Pastor told once of his church youth group in CA taking the kids swimming and then having a wiener roast and preaching about the dangers of smoking, the next church church was supported by tobacco growers, the previous pastor would snub out his cigarette and go in to preach about the dangers of "mixed bathing", i.e. letting the boys and girls swim together, next church, first sermon, little old lady welcomed him to the church and turned to the wife and told her to go home and wash her face as they did not like makeup in that group.
You have to go to some churches to get back under the law Christ freed us from.
If He wants you to quit, you will know and you will be successful, He will probably take it away from you, no pain at all.
bless you

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! An individual may have many vices and still be a Christian. Smoking is not sinful in God's eyes.

I was very much anti smoking. Both my parents smoked and I had a real aversion. I was badgered into meeting a man who had a home based fellowship of about 20 people. The Lord said to me that this man was to be my mentor. I said, "But he smokes!" The Lord said to me that it's not what goes into the man that defiles him. (Matthew 15:11). The Lord also said that the words that some people speak are far more offensive.

He was my friend and mentor for about 30 years. He was the most spiritual man I ever met. He gave up smoking eventually. He passed away peacefully at the age of 74. He kept me going when my marriage broke up. I'm eternally grateful to God for leading me to this man. I look forward to meeting him again in glory.

Smoking is hazardous to your wealth, especially in Australia and the UK. According to the "experts", being alive is a health hazard.

Jesus only did what He saw the Father do, He only said what He heard the Father say.
I know of no one who is called to light up a cancer stick.
The "social" aspect of smoking seems more a caving to temptation, perhaps those "friends" aren't really truly friends.

I'm a 4th year nursing student. I understand the risks and the last two years of my practical training have had me in Covid wards and ICUs. Sometimes the demands of the academics and the practicals is stressing so an occasional cigarette is a way to step back and relax.

Later today I will be poolside in my bikini and having a cigarette to escape the stresses.

Salvation is not about works - it is a free gift from God, to those who believe on His Son.

i msure if i said to the girl in bikini hi i am staring at you as you look good , they would slap me and report me lol

Most anti smoking Christians use the "Your body is a temple" argument. But then again, most of them eat fast food, which in my opinion is just as bad as smoking. What about tattoos? my pastor was in the navy in the 50's and has some Ink, what is the consensus on that?
