Where does the Bible teach that it is merited?
The Author of Salvation taught it in (John 14:21&24).
21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

Notice the Lords says, those God the Father loves, are those who keep his commands. Does God the Father love those who don't do what Jesus says? Can we have Grace without the Love of God?
If you answered No....Grace is merited.

I believe that the gospel that Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 15, is the first and most important doctrine.

All other doctrine is secondary to that foundation which is the gospel of grace.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4,11
For I handed down to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures...Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

That was the full gospel of Jesus Christ.

An important secondary doctrine would be loving the brethren with an unconditional love, as He loved us.

Another doctrine would center on a personal holiness.
I like to look at what Jesus says about acts/works and what faith is really all about, "But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. "Matthew 16:18

Jesus is speaking quite clear here.

When one reads the New Testament and Paul's teachings on works, the reader must differentiate about which works Paul is speaking of. On one hand, Paul speaks about the 'Works of the Mosaic Law' ie circumcision and man made Jewish laws and customs of the Old Testament.

But Paul also speaks of a different kind of works in Romans 2. And Paul states that these works are important for one's salvation and that they will be judged on their works:

5By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God,

6 who will repay everyone according to his works:

7eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works,

8but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness.

9Yes, affliction and distress will come upon every human being who does evil, Jew first and then Greek.

10 But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, Jew first and then Greek.

For example...(John 8:34) Jesus taught that everyone who sins, is a slave to sin.
Do you believe everyone who sins...is a slave of sin?
Yes I believe that because though we are new creations in Christ, we are still merely human beings with all our faults, defects and deficiencies. That’s the divine beauty of God’s love and grace.

Though we were enemies with God, He gave His Son to die for our sins, and now we are heirs to the Kingdom. God’s grace is not to be abused or disrespected but rather appreciated with sincere humility, thankfulness and joy, all while prayerfully striving to overcome sin throughout our lives, though that is never achieved perfectly.

I know you can read scripture like this and discard it , but that’s a huge mistake just letting you know Satan talks about grace also , the kind that rejects the truth and says grace grace

So In conclusion my salvation hangs on the truth of my savior the one lord and judge of all , not what Joseph prince wrote in a devotional lol

the reason is Jesus is the only one who can ever save my soul so I will stick to his word

Satan loves the idea in our head that whether we do good or evil in life we think it’s irrelevant because of the word grace. Because then we’ll never repent and be set free of his slavery over mankind but this new grace doctrine is a solid brick wall in many so scripture like the above repetitive and true new and old testsment becomes irrelevant

Sadly, you’re the one who doesn’t believe the Gospel. Merited GRACE is not GRACE at all. Be careful, little one; it’s easy to see you’re placing your salvation within the confines of your own hands rather than in God’s.

yeah but this is how we learn that brother we hear his word and learn about that like this at first we’re babes so we need milk we hear the gospel

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

this is milk to begin establishing faith in him when we’re young in faith we’re like children we don’t have jobs and responsibilities yet we’re still babes so many of the scriptures in the gospel are like John 3:16

as we become established in faith this kind of word in the gospel starts to teach us about obedience to his word

we need to follow the faith in the gospel we have to do this

as we grow in the gospel our capacity to hear what he’s saying grows , and we learn from him what your saying there like the wise and foolish builders the difference in hearing and rejecting or hearing and doing is something the gospel teaches us as we persevere in the faith

this allows us to not be overwhelmed as babes , but also feeds us so we grow into the maturity found there in the gospel. It’s a journey and a growth process to get from milk witch teaches us to believe fully upon Jesus name , word , blood , spirit

and then we grow into obedience from that faith as we learn the mature things that we don’t expect of babes . So if we hear his word d believe eventually we come to maturity hearing and believing things like this which is what causes us to understand what James is saying

see if we’re first established in faith and trust Jesus and his word , just hearing thkngs like that makes me grow because all My faith is well established because of all the milk in the gospel but there’s also the meat and potatoes that causes growth and obedience

as we hear the gospel the faith it creates leads us as we grow so we are never overwhelmed we always have the milk based faith but we start eating the meat with the Milk

James really is just saying what Jesus said so hearing James also is what matters do you see what I’m saying ? If we hear this

just ( hearing ) accepting that is going to change our faith. We have to hear what he said d he will teach us to come to repentance and obedience

this happened because you first believed and out your trust in him and knew his word is true.

but if you look back at my other post you’ll see that I was already saying what we actually do is what we will be judged by. What I’m saying is we hear the word d he is able to do this and bring us to repentance and maturity of faith he’s able to change our Will and actions

This comes by faith built from hearing ( accepting as truth ) his word in the gospel that will teach us what your saying there about doing hearing the gospel is where you learned that.

hearing doesn’t replace doing it teaches us and compels and leads us to doing the right things taught by the lord.

hearing is where it’s all rooted but actually hearing as if it is true and Gods word

Yes , our works will be judged , and what is useless will be burnt...
Let us be about our Father's business , and do the works that HE has ordained for us to do , and not do the works that WE think we should do...

That’s twice you’ve incorrectly suggested I discount Scripture and have mentioned someone named Joseph Prince, whoever that is, and I don’t understand why you have done so.

When one reads the New Testament and Paul's teachings on works, the reader must differentiate about which works Paul is speaking of. On one hand, Paul speaks about the 'Works of the Mosaic Law' ie circumcision and man made Jewish laws and customs of the Old Testament.

But Paul also speaks of a different kind of works in Romans 2. And Paul states that these works are important for one's salvation and that they will be judged on their works:

5By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God,

6 who will repay everyone according to his works:

7eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works,

8but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness.

9Yes, affliction and distress will come upon every human being who does evil, Jew first and then Greek.

10 But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, Jew first and then Greek.
On the topic of good works.

If you could define what you mean by, 'good works', as simply as you can, that would be helpful.

After all, good works could include a host of activities, that may or may not be authentic good works.

I was just responding to your wierd insult or whatever it was , talking about how I’m a poor soul who is trusting in my own self for salvation

The good works of faith are taught in scripture and will be what we are judged by is why I assume you don’t agree plus reading what you wrote all the time sort of shows it

“But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

to them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

but unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

but glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: for there is no respect of persons with God.”

Our works are going to be what determines our eternal judgement every man Jew and gentile. That’s why some Christians talk about what works we do and don’t do the word grace isnt salvstion the teachings of the gospel are, and the gospel teaches us that our works are what we will be held accountable for

I’m assuming we’ll just hearing what you write that you don’t agree basically because of your response.

yeah it’s time to be a victim now right ? Joseph prince is one of the hyper grace preachers teaching us that good works aren’t a part of it

The Author of Salvation taught it in (John 14:21&24).
21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

Notice the Lords says, those God the Father loves, are those who keep his commands. Does God the Father love those who don't do what Jesus says? Can we have Grace without the Love of God?
If you answered No....Grace is merited.
Which commandments?

There are a few sets of commandments listed in the scripture.

The commandment given to Abraham.

The commandments given to Noah.

The commandments given to Moses.

The commandments given through the prophets.

The extended commandments from the law that Jesus gave.

The commandments Paul gave.

The two commandments John gave.

This is not an easy question to answer.

If you could define what you mean by, 'good works', as simply as you can, that would be helpful.

After all, good works could include a host of activities, that may or may not be authentic good works.
I will try and explain 'good works' as simply as possible. Jesus commands us to love God with our whole heart and soul and our neighbor as ourselves. In order to show our love for God, we obey His commandments (Jesus asked, How can you say you love me if you don't obey my commandments.

Jesus also tells us, in the Judgement of Nations that we show our love for Jesus, who is God, through love of neighbor. And, love of neighbor needs works/acts, love of neighbor isn't just a warm fuzzy feeling.....ie, visiting the sick and the prisoners, feeding and clothing those in need. We show our love of neighbor with good works when the neighbor is in need, could be many things.....an act of compassion, helping them when in need, forgiving them the wrongs they do to us, be kind to them, pray for them.....There are so many ways you can show your love of neighbor through good works. Jesus showed us the way, he ministered to the poor, the downtrodden, and the sick. Jesus' apostles showed their love of God and neighbor by giving up all they had to spread the Gospel to their neighbors.

As we go through our own lives, we will be afforded many opportunities to help others in need. Help them with good works when you can, Jesus expects that from us and He made that clear.

And I reiterate, good works in and of themselves will not gain us salvation apart from Jesus. But Jesus is surely looking for good works from us and, in the Judgement of Nations, He tells us we will be judged as to how we showed love of God, Jesus, through love of neighbor.

My brother, I sincerely apologize. I meant my post to be directed at someone who’s constantly pushing works salvation and somehow I ended up mistakenly directing it at you. Believe me when I tell you, your faith in Christ and His saving grace is inspirational and a breath of fresh air around here. Please accept my apologies, and keep fighting the good fight.
