Is the bible the word of God or God’s word the bible? Or is it Jesus?
I have had this question in my mind for a while and I did an exercise using John 1.

JOHN 1

1 In the beginning was the bible, and the bible was with God, and the bible was God. 2 the bible was with God in the beginning. 3 Through the bible all things were made; without the bible nothing was made that has been made. 4 In the bible was life, and that life was the bible of all mankind. 5 The bible shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning the bible, so that through the bible all might believe. 8 He himself was not the bible; he came only as a witness to the bible.

9 The true bible that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 The bible was in the world, and though the world was made through the bible, the world did not recognize the bible. 11 The bible came to that which was the bible’s own, but the bible’s own did not receive the bible. 12 Yet to all who did receive the bible, to those who believed in the bible’s name, the bible gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14 The bible became flesh and made the bible’s dwelling among us. We have seen the bible’s glory, the glory of the one and only bible, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 (John testified concerning the bible. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘the bible who comes after me has surpassed me because the bible was before me.’”) 16 Out of the bible’s fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through the bible. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only bible, the bible is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

19 Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders[c] in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the bible.”

21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”

He said, “I am not.”

“Are you the Prophet?”

He answered, “No.”

22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”

23 John replied in the bibles of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the bible.’”

24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the bible, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

26 “I baptize with water,” John replied, “but among you stands the bible you do not know. 27 the bible is the bible who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29 The next day John saw the bible coming toward him and said, “Look, the bible of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the bible I meant when I said, ‘the bible who comes after me has surpassed me because the bible was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know the bible, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that the bible might be revealed to Israel.”

32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on the bible. 33 And I myself did not know the bible but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘the bible on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the bible who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I have seen and I testify that this is God’s bible.”[f]

35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw the bible passing by, he said, “Look, the bible!”

37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed the bible. 38 Turning around, the bible saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”

They said, “the bible” (which means “the bible”), “where is the bible staying?”

39 “Come,” the bible replied, “and you will see.”

So they went and saw where the bible was staying, and they spent that day with the bible. It was about four in the afternoon.

40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed the bible. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the bible” (that is, the bible). 42 And he brought him to the bible. The bible looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter[g]).

43 The next day the bible decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, the bible said to him, “Follow the bible.”

44 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. 45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the bible Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—the bible of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.

“Come and see,” said Philip.

47 When the bible saw Nathanael approaching, the bible said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”

48 “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.

The bible answered, “the bible saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”

49 Then Nathanael declared, “The bible, you are the bible of God; the bible is the king of Israel.”

50 the bible said, “You believe because the bible told you the bible saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” 51 the bible then added, “Very truly the bible tells you, you will see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the bible.”

The Bible is the written word of God. Jesus is the Living Word of God. They are connected but not the same thing (despite what some deeply misguided individuals claim).

From the perspective of the apostles, when they referred to the scripture, they were not referring to the letters they were penning to the churches. They were most likely referring to the books of the Old Testament, which is the foundation of what everyone would have been taught from; these Old Testament books were their scriptures. Today, we accept the gospels, epistles, and historical books of the New Testament as authoritative scriptures.

There's also a difference between the Word of God where God audibly speaks and those with "ears to hear" listen and the Word Of God which is called the scriptures written by inspiration of God.

God's literal, audible, words.
Hebrews 4:12 KJV
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Scripture penned by inspiration of God.
2 Timothy 3:16,17 KJV
16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Believe it or not, all of this is true, and there are no conflicts whatsoever.

THE BIBLE = THE WORD OF GOD = A LIVING BOOK

CHRIST = THE WORD OF GOD = A LIVING DIVINE PERSON

What version is that taken from?

The Bible is two covenants, the old and the new. Every word is God's word, and like any legal contract is essential. However, God can speak words that are not part of this covenant. For example, Enoch is clearly a man of God who walked by faith and is quoted repeatedly in the New Testament. Therefore we can conclude his book is also the word of God even though much of it is not part of the Bible, hence much of it is not part of our legal contract with God.

However, Jesus is the embodiment of this word, this legal contract. How can that be? Well this legal contract is a marriage contract, that is how.

Is the bible the word of God or God’s word the bible? Or is it Jesus?
I have had this question in my mind for a while and I did an exercise using John 1.
Did this "exercise" better help you to determine what your spiritual status is? Are you STILL UNSURE?

I ask because it is very important for people to KNOW what their spiritual status is. You have spent some time asking various "iffy" questions, but I do not see you trying to seek information on how to KNOW you are saved or not.

Thanks for your interest. I am a follower of my eldest brother Jesus and we share the same Father in heaven. And I'm so glad They have sent Their Spirit of Truth to live in me to be His host. It is such a privilege to be His mobile home, to take Him to the lost so together we can lead them to my Father through Christ, to bring the light of Christ to those living in the darkness, to tell them of a Saviour Who can take away their burden of sin AND then like me become another mobile home for the Spirit of Truth to do His stuff through. For of God, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be glory for ever. Amen.
