If you wanted to move to another country, which would you prefer to move to, and why?

I have four from a number I've checked out.

Slovenia....central to east and west Europe. Reasonable climate. English widely spoken, great nature trails and motorcycle roads. Good medical facilities. Average cost of living. I think the central through to south region would be where I'd like to set up home

Italy.....again, central to east and west Europe. Good climate. English used fairly widely. Good motorcycle roads. OK medical facilities. Lower cost of living. I think I would prefer to live in the south east.

Belgium....central to UK and west and central Europe. Reasonable climate. English spoken widely. Good medical facilities. Great chocolate and chippies.

Portugal.....easy access to UK and Europe. Great climate. English widely spoken. Low cost of living. Good motorcycling roads, hiking trails, sailing grounds. Good medical facilities. Algarve would be where I might prefer to live.

Where would you like to live? What country/region, and why?

Uruguay or Paraguay in South America.. The cost of living is really low so if i sold up here and moved then i would have a better retirement.. The negatives is the language.. I would have to put in some work to learn the local language..

Costa Rica also seems to be a decent place to retire.. cheap.. But it seems to be a bit more dangerous then the other two..

There are a few island colonies that i like.. St helena in the south Atlantic is a stable place.. But things are a bit more expensive there..

I heard that Belize is English speaking, but I don't think it's as safe as the other countries you mentioned.

There's a region in Mexico where there are a lot of English speaking expats apparently, but I can't think of the name. What about Panama, is it safer than Costa Rica?

You can pick up a reasonably priced sailing boat as a liveaboard in that area too, or so I've been lead to believe. Apparently some come through the canal to go out across the pacific, but have second thoughts when they get there, finding the distance to sail too daunting.

Yes Belize is English speaking around it's capital.. The place was a British colony and imported people from the other English colonies in the Caribbean . But out in the country but in the countryside near the borders with Guatemala and Mexico you will find Spanish speaking villages.. And you are correct the Law and order situation in the country is less favorable..

Panama is a mixed bag.. My brother was there only last year and he said things are cool in Panama city.. But he went to the other end of the panama channel to a place called Colon and it was a very dangerous city for foreigners.. He went to Panama to join a sailing yacht that was headed to Fiji in the south pacific.. But trouble with covid put an end to that adventure before it even started..

He did go to Panama 2 years before Covid and sailed from there to Tahiti.. He enjoyed the trip.. And yes vast distances and you can get caught in the doldrums between Panama and the Galapagos islands..

but if you want other new places try

New Holland...oh wait thats just another name for Australia
How about New South Wales.

Thanks for those anecdotes. It'd be a real adventure to sail out into the Pacific from there. I'd be up for that.

i have loved Mexico since i was a child. but i also have a special place in my heart for Romania and Hungary.

I'd choose Burundi, the poorest country in the world with an annual per capita income of $264 or $25 a month. That's less than $1 a day. I am not rich in this country but, with what I have, the people of Burundi would make me their king. I like the sound of that, "Your Highness King Arthur!" I would try and be a just ruler.

Probably Singapore or Hong Kong, but those places are expensive.
