I think I'd be in PF all the time if I lived that close. So beautiful there. Are you south or north of there?
Uh... I wouldn't recommend it. Everything there is straight tourist fare. (Not our "tourist" user, I mean families who go there to entertain their kids.) It's hard to find anything that would not insult the intelligence of anybody teen and up.

In our two years of planning we found a few things we wanted to try out. Like... five things. And we didn't rush it with trying them out. And we didn't see anything else very interesting while we were there.

Of course if you have multiple young children... Yeah, you could go there every week and not exhaust the possibilities for more than a year.

Yes. I've been a couple times and it is true, it's more of a kid kingdom. lol I'm a hobby photographer so when I like a place it usually has zero to do with places to go to but more about the scenery. Gorgeous in the fall. Another place hubby and I have gone to, almost every fall we've been together is Brown County In. I have endless pictures of that place. My next place I want to go is a couple hrs. north of that. It's called Park County and has covered bridges all around. Hubby indulges me and even bought me a new camera for Christmas. So if I can find a place to take some scenic pictures, I'm there. Sorry if thats tmi. lol

Now I did want to see inside Titanic, since I'm from the area it happened. But not quite sure it's worth the moula. Looks cool from the outside though.

I enjoyed it...got the picture on the mantle and everything.

I wanted the whistle from the gift shop...but I passed on it instead. I got too much schlock.

Admitting the problem is the first step to solving it.

The second step in this case would be to have a yard sale and offload a lot of schlock onto other people who have the same problem but won't admit it. ;)

I thought it would be interesting. I grew up where the bodies came ashore and they were buried in either the Catholic or Protestant graveyard. It became a big tourist interest when the movie was popular years ago. May have to convince hubby to go next time we are down that way.

Not to derail the thread but my weakness is the Dollar Tree. Which hubby now calls the 100 Dollar Tree. I have dishes for every season. I swear I could seat everyone in my town for supper, I have so many dishes. Mother has the same addiction. When we pass someone is going to have a lot of fun selling all our dish sets and DT trinkets. I think the two of us could open a museum.

Wow. That's a BLEEP of a tourist attraction to live near. My sympathy.

Remember in the Ghostbuster movie when the dock workers called to inform them that the Titanic just arrived? "Well... Better late than never."

Lol, you get use to it. The ship went down off the coast of Newfoundland, my mother is from there. Then the bodies had to end up somewhere. And not a lot of people knew about it until the movie came out. One of the graves has a J Dawson, the character played by DiCaprio. Just a coincidence but tourists found the place and came by bus loads. Very distressing to the churches who had never seen so many people trampling their graveyards. They had to hire more people to keep the grounds because the "Americans were leaving their trash behind and disturbing the graves." lol It's calmed down now, until another movie is made. The town is Halifax, in Nova Scotia, they also have a museum there if anyone is ever in the area and likes history.

All the info about the Titanic sounds fascinating... I remember we drove past it and I wondered if it was worth the price. I'm sure there must be a few hidden gems among all the flash for cash down the strip.

Just in case anyone was curious...

3 Things to Know About... Part 1:

Rod:

1. He's an awesome dad.

2. He has a great sense of humor that comes in stages -- Stage 1: he observes something. Stage 2: he starts thinking about it, and really tries to hold it in. Really, he does, but then comes Stage 3: he's thought about it and it's way past the point of no return -- this is when he breaks into a gut-busting laugh (which matches the gut-busting breakfast he just downed in 2.3 minutes,) and you can't help but crack up right along with him!

3. The man is a total grill master. He made some of the best burgers any of us had ever had, and we eagerly scavenged any leftovers the next morning!

Lynx:

1. He's always got your back when it comes to planning get-togethers. He brought 1/3 of his house to the meetup and nearly everything he thought to bring came in very handy.

2. He insists on being the group Lyft (in a very awesome way.) If you need a ride to the airport or if there's something you want to see, Lynx is going to make sure you get there, one way or another. He is always trying to help and refuses to accept reimbursements or paybacks.

3. Lynx spends a great deal of time in the kitchen -- not just eating, but cooking up a storm! Only a small army could keep up with the rate at which he was producing food almost every day.

Pipp:

1. Pipp is the girl who gives fine Southern ladies their impeccable reputations. She is the young mama chick who makes sure everyone is fed, looked, after, and kept in line. She can give you a look that lets you know you've been TOLD -- without ever saying a word, and she'll make you want to thank her for it! Yes Ma'am!!!

2. She can adjust to anyone and any situation -- truly one of the most easy-going and versatile people I have ever met.

3. You will never go hungry, be without, or feel like an outsider around Her Tribe -- they take you in and treat you like family from the get-go.

3 Things to Know About... Part 2:

Cinder:

1. Cinder one of the most brilliant human beings you will ever meet. If you ever need to find a life-saving mad scientist serum locked behind 20 different brain-melting puzzles, Cinder is going to be the one to find it. I had never been to an escape room before, but just watching her do her thing was more than worth the price of admission. :D

2. It is truly dangerous when she and I get together. We can find offbeat, 6th grade humor in ANYTHING, and at one point we were laughing so hard that we'd pretty much stopped breathing (Lynx said all he heard was loud wheezing, and promptly came to check up on us.)

3. She has enough energy and adventure for 5 people. Everyday was a new itinerary for her (including massive hikes up mountains) and I wish I had just a fraction of her ambitions. And one of my favorite conversations with her is about the differences she's seen in how Christianity is interpreted in different countries all over the world when she served for 10 years of overseas missions. Talk about making me feel like a pew-warming slacker...

Love Comes Softly:

1. One of the sweetest, kindest people you will ever meet. She will laugh at ALL your jokes -- and REALLY MEAN IT when she laughs! She has a way of making you feel appreciated for just the way God made you to be.

2. She is a ton of fun at events. Just being around her makes you want to be a more joyful, giving, and understanding person.

3. If you try to do anything for her, she will absolutely make sure you are paid back, in one of the most sneaky (aka, truly ingenious) ways I have ever seen -- leaving behind her own escape-room-style puzzle in which she made sure everyone's contributions were acknowledge and reimbursed.

BONUS ROUND:

* Aside from one particular meal in which a particular appendage that shall not particularly be mentioned by name was procured in a Crock Pot, THE MEN did all the cooking. We ladies didn't have to lift a finger, unless it was to go get another helping. And the gents wouldn't let us pay them back for the army of supplies they bought either.

* I think everyone has horror stories of being part of Christian groups in which paying for things went terribly awry (someone forgetting their wallet, insisting that "if you were a real Christian, you wouldn't charge me for this," etc.) NOT in this group. If anything, people were nearly fighting to pay each for each other's dinners, tickets and other miscellaneous expenses.

* I'm sure everyone has also been part of Christian groups, camps, or retreats where romantic entanglements or drama took over -- but we were blessed just to be a group of good friends who liked to hang out together. NO worries about anyone sneaking off to go make out under the stairs!

* 3 people drove their own vehicles, so we were able to go whenever and wherever we wanted. Everyone got to choose whatever they wanted to do on any given day, at any given time. There was no pressure to do anything someone wasn't interested in, whether some wanted to go off on a grandiose outing about town, or others just wanted to stay home and read on the porch.

The group was about split as far as early birds (as in, some are 3 AM early) and night owls, but unless we had mutual plans, everyone was encouraged to follow their own natural schedule.

The last thing I'd like to mention is the joint respect we had as a group and the decisions that came out of that. For instance, we DID take a group picture which some opted out of (totally their choice, no pressure,) and we all decided that it would only be shared with our family and family-like friends.

None of us were trying to sneak shots at each other's worst moments (hello TN allergy season!!!) with the intention of plastering them all over social media. We mutually decided that there would be no sharing pictures of each other with random strangers on the internet. Everyone's privacy was respected, which is why we decided to share a picture of our hands here instead (although... Lynx's arm can probably now be identified from a very large list of suspects!) :D

We are very thankful for this time together, but the whole reason we're posting is that we hope this will inspire other people here to set up their own meetups (and tell us about them!) as well! :)

God bless and thank you for reading about our adventures (and a few mishaps.) :) :coffee:

When I got to meet Rod for the first time, he smiled and said, "I finally get to meet, The (Seoulsearch.)"

Not, "I get to meet Seoulsearch," but THE Seoulsearch.:ROFL::ROFL:

LOL!!!

I kind of felt like I must be seen as some notorious criminal from America's Most Wanted.

It made me laugh out loud, and even as I write this, I'm still laughing.

As Lynx would, say, hopefully Brother Google can clue me in as to who she is and what she's like.

My sister has a certified authentic piece of coal from the Titanic that she is
going to give to a young boy she tutors. He loves the story of the Titanic :)

She is beautiful and highly intelligent, talented and extremely honest. Which is a contrast to Harvey (the lawyer she is a secretary for...he isn't so ethical)
THE Donna gets away with extreme manipulation because of her innocent act...until she is questioned on it and she comes clean with her fairly benign intentions.

I can see why he would call you "THE Seoulsearch ".

She had gone on some exposition where people were assigned the names of people
who had been on that fateful trip, and explored what I assume was a life sized replica
of the Titanic, being assigned their cabins and finding out whether they lived or died,
and how their life proceeded following that if they remained among the living :D

I watched quite a bit of Suits some time ago... before getting Netflix, where it is also available.

It was highly entertaining :D Oh goodness!!! I even came to like the actor who played Louis, Rick Hoffman.

He had always struck me as being far too smarmy and arrogant to care for in any authentic way, and
he for sure is still those things in Suits, but he is also so much more. A very complex character
and the show overall is... I am being redundant LOL = entertaining. Rated 8.5 on
imdb (<= link :)) :D

It might be odd to watch it now that Megan Markle is a royal :LOL:
