I don't watch the Oscars, seldom watch anything but news. But I'm seeing in the news that actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock over a slight to his wife. Now I don't care much about the reasoning behind it all. But have we as a society snapped a chain?! We use to consider ourselves a civilized country. Now people are beating each other on national tv? Getting to the point that I'm afraid to step outside my door without being armed.

I don't believe it, I think it is simply the lamest attempt to get clicks and views knowing their ratings were in the toilet

I’d bet the ranch it was staged.

Until I saw the clip of the entire incident, I was thinking it was an act… but Chris Rock crossed the line ...
After seeing Smith sit down and give instructions to Rock with some emphatic language....it's plausible
I would not have stopped at a slap….but what Smith did is what any respectable husband would and should do.

Even if it was staged ….to me it made a statement of when a line is crossed....

The reason I lean more towards being real is (and a good actor "maybe" could do this) but the timing...with Smith... especially "the pause" and his admonishment is so (guy) instinctive.

What we don't know is .....if during rehearsal Smith told Rock ...not to do that joke.

20% staged

80% for being real …

I heard he might have his Emmy taken away because of that slap. I doubt he'd risk that "honor" for a staged act. Probably why he was crying during his speech, and said he hoped they let him back next time.

There are many today who are wrongfully claiming that this whole incident was staged.

Believe me, it wasn't, although I wish that it was.

How can I be so sure that this was real?

Well, just read Smith's acceptance speech that he gave later on in the night.

Here is a transcript:

"Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world.

Making this film I got to protect Aunjanue Ellis, who is one of the most strongest, most delicate people I ever met. I got to protect Saniyya and Demi, the two actresses that played Venus and Serena. I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people and to be a river to my people.

I know to do what we do, you gotta be able to take abuse, and you gotta be able to have people talk crazy about you. In this business, you gotta be able to have people disrespecting you and you gotta smile and you gotta pretend like that‘s OK.

But Richard Williams, and what I loved, thank you D. Denzel (Washington) said to me a few minutes ago, he said, “At your highest moment, be careful. That’s when the devil comes for you.”

It’s like I want to be a vessel for love. I want to say thank you to Venus and Serena.

I just spit, I hope they didn’t see that.

I want to say thank you to Venus and Serena and the entire Williams family for entrusting me with your story. That’s what I want to do. I want to be an ambassador of that kind of love and care and concern.

I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees.

This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people. Tim and Trevor and Zach and Saniyya and Demi and Aunjunue and the entire cast and crew of “King Richard” and Venus and Serena and the entire Williams family.

Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said. I look like the crazy father just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things.

To my mother. Um, a lot of this moment is really complicated for me, but to my mother. She didn’t want to come out. She had her knitting friends, she has a knitting crew watching with her. Being able to love and care for my mother, my family, my wife.

I’m taking up too much time. Thank you for this honor, thank you for this moment. I thank you on behalf of Richard and Oracene, the entire Williams family. Thank you. I’m hoping the Academy invites me back. Thank you."

Whereas Smith tried to compare himself to Richard Williams who was "a fierce defender of his family", in reality, Smith was "a fierce ATTACKER of another man". And not just another man, but a COMEDIAN who simply made a joke, and a Hollywood movie-related joke at that in regards to "G.I. Jane".

Was Chris Rock's joke a bit out of line in that Smith's wife's head is basically bald due to her condition of alopecia?

Sure, but she definitely wasn't in any sort of real danger, and therefore didn't need to be "fiercely defended" by Smith's violent act.

Here's where it gets REALLY SCARY.

In case you don't already know this, both Will Smith and Denzel Washington claim to be Christians.

With this in mind, consider again what Smith said.

He said:

"I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world."

What?!?

If you honestly think (and he does) that God is calling you to go and physically assault another man, and on national TV no less, then you're greatly deluded.

Neither God nor Christ had anything to do with your sinful actions.

Ironically, if anybody truly represented the teachings of Christ in any way, shape, or form, then it was Chris Rock who basically "turned the other cheek" after you violently assaulted him.

It gets even worse.

Smith went on to say:

"I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people and to be a river to my people."

Again, what?!?

Smith honestly believes that he's being "called on" BY GOD, in context, "to love people and to protect people" by slapping another man in the face and then cursing at him.

If this wasn't bad enough, then it gets worse still.

Smith continued on to say:

"Thank you D. Denzel (Washington) said to me a few minutes ago, he said, 'At your highest moment, be careful. That’s when the devil comes for you.'"

Again, what?!?

First of all, if "your highest moment" is receiving a vain award as an actor, then God help you.

Secondly, by stating "That's when the devil comes for you", Denzel Washington, another deluded man, was clearly implying that Chris Rock was "the devil" while condoning Smith's slapping of him.

Smith continue on further still:

"It’s like I want to be a vessel for love."

Then stop violently assaulting people and cursing at them.

Again, Smith said, and this might be the scariest thing of all:

"This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people."

This alleged "beautiful moment" in which Smith was allegedly "shining a light on all of the people" was a moment in which he violently assaulted another man and then cursed at him.

If you read the rest of Smith's "apology" (read: "delusionary self-justification"), then you'll notice that he "apologized" (yeah, right) to the academy and to his fellow actors and actresses, but he never apologized to Chris Rock, the man who he ASSAULTED.

Anyhow, like I said, this wasn't staged, although I truly wish that it was.

I think Will Smith was completely drunk. His emotions were all over the place. No, I do not believe this was staged.

I think it was staged, anything to capture the attention of the world and make the news. Covid and the Ukranian war was pushed aside for the moment and this dominated our news. I am sure they were pleased with this result.

I’ve never been a big fan of Will Smith. I always thought he was boastful and arrogant. He was laughing at Rock, but when his wife wasn’t, he decided to assault another man. If Smith really wants to protect his wife’s honor, he should get back to a monogamous marriage with her.

as a guy who grew up watching pro wrestling, my lean is that it was staged. notice how rock leaned forward and bent down a little. perfect position to receive the slap.

if a man was walking up on me in the manner that smith was him, the last thing i would do was lean forward.

The ratings are so bad for this satanic event you thought he got an Emmy instead of an Oscar!

Mission accomplished though. Everyone is talking about the Academy awards.

Earlier, another presenter made fun of his wife’s open sexual relationship with other people, that he thought was hilarious.

I guarantee it was staged. In fact , they’re back to being good buddies again already:

Diddy: ‘I can confirm’ Will Smith, Chris Rock settled feud after Oscars 2022

“That’s not a problem. That’s over. I can confirm that,” Diddy, 52, told us of the beef without elaborating on further details of how Smith, 53, and Rock, 57, had reconciled.
“It’s all love,” he added. “They’re brothers.”

I am wondering why he slapped him and didnt punch him. It is kind of odd for a man to slap not punch isnt it. Thats also why I felt it were staged.

well, Im not really caring about a quarrel between two american actors. They prolly do that all the time on and off camera.

the big news is Jane Campion, a NZer, and woman, won best director.

Apparently that has never happend before. shock horror

For directing an american film but its filmed in NZ. so thats kinda weird too. Otago is now a stand in for Montana.

In 1953 A star is Born movie, they staged an Academy awards and Norman Maine slaps his wife, (Judy Garland playing Vicki Lester) who's accepted an award for best actress, but he's drunk.

So, slapping, making jokes and being drunk at the those awards is really nothing new.

your paranoia depends on where you live. In some places, if you happen to live in gang territory, if you cross that invisible line you and diss someones mama you may not live to see your next birthday.

Serena and Venus escaped Compton to play tennis in Florida. Their sister was tragically shot in a drive by.
When Serena was playing one tennis tournament in (cant remember the name of the place) she was booed by the white crowd for I dont know what reason but she kept on playing. Even when she was injured she kept on. She had to.

She triumped. I havent seen the movie but I have read her memoir. Shes in the Guiness Book of records today as a world champion. I dont think it was easy for her but things arent easy for anyone. Serena and Venus parents actually did split up on top of that.

I think a lot of things are at stake, though not sure about the whole joking thing. Its not nice to be made fun of on national tv, but then, why not just slime people instead of doing the whole slap thing . Thats what they do on Nickleodeon. or cream pie in the face?

BTW Serena says shes a JW (Jehovahs witness) in her book. JW's do actually claim to be Christian, but not sure if Will Smith is one.
