The majority christians believe that Jesus died on good Friday and rose Sunday. Yet when we compare this to what Jesus himself said about how long he would be in grave we see we have little problem. Jesus was always being inquired of by the Jews for a sign. He gave them one in reference to His death and resurrection. He told them that just like Jonas, He would be in the earth 3 days and 3 nights. In the Gospel of John Jesus again gave the Jews a sign by telling them if this temple was destroyed He would raise it up in 3 days. Jesus was referring to His body.

(Matthew 12:38) Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

So we are going to pretend Jonas wasn't in the belly of a whale. Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three night. (Jonas 1:17)

Let's take another look at it (John 2:18) Then answered the Jews and said unto him, “What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?” (19) Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. (20) Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? (21) But he spake of the temple of his body.

Jesus makes it clear the time between His death and resurrection would be 3 days and 3 nights.

Cannot Get 3 Days And 3 Nights

Now despite the fact that Jesus Himself said that He would be in the grave 3 days and 3 nights, man has come up with the tradition of Jesus dying on Good Friday and rising early Sunday morning. In following this tradition, not only does one not observe one of God's Holy Days, which is the Passover, they directly deny the words of Jesus. It was Jesus who gave the sign of being in the grave 3 days and 3 nights. The tradition of Good Friday and Easter clearly does not line up with scripture. Because following this tradition the maximum one has Jesus in the grave is 1 day and 2 nights.

According to tradition, if Jesus had died on Friday, He would have been in the grave Friday night, Saturday day and Saturday night. One would not count Sunday because in John (20:1) it states that the 1st day of the week which is Sunday, Mary came to the grave site when it was still dark. In Luke (24:1-6) They find that the stone which was placed in front of the sepulcher had been removed and an angel tells them that Jesus had already risen.

(John 20:1) The first d ay of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. (2) Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

(Luke 24:1) Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. (2) And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. (3) And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. (4) And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

(5) And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? (6) He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,

Jesus died on Wednesday and rose on Sunday. And the reckoning of time was in the Hebrew mode (from sunset to sunset).

You look as though your preaching a fourth day resurrection. If Jesus was in the tomb for a full three days and three nights, then He must have risen on the fourth day. That is common sense.

Paul states that Jesus rose on the third day.

1 Corinthians 15:4
And that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

So we can be confident that Jesus rose during that third day.

You probably have a reason for generating a discussion on such a trivial matter.

This may be one of the signs that Jesus was talking about.

Luke 11:32
The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.

I’d like to believe that it was Thursday, but the text is clear - He was crucified and entombed on the Preparation Day - “that is, the day before Sabbath!” (Mark 15:42) It was instructed in Deuteronomy (21:23) that any criminal hanged on a tree “shall not remain overnight”, He must be taken down on that day.

Not so. When we read the account of the burial of Christ and the time it would have taken to gain Pilate's permission and then prepare the body of Jesus, it would appear that He may have been buried at the end of Wednesday (which would be the beginning of Thursday at sunset). Which would mean He was in the tomb for just three days.

There are seven annual high Sabbaths in the Jewish calendar aside from the weekly Sabbaths (Leviticus 23) :)

Passover is one of the seven...

Maybe, but this "high Sabbath" in Nissan/Abib should be the 21th day, which is the 7th day counting from Unleavened Bread on the 15th day (Lev. 23:6-8) and 8th day counting from Passover on the 14th day. That's in the next week, not the Crucifixion week.

I must be dtdrue to our Savior. Jesus did say the same as Noah.
Any time a A friday is mentioned according to our present day calendar, it would be the Sixth day until sunset by the Biblical calendar. Being buried on the Sixth day before sunset would say the Seventh day, the First day, and dthe Second day would have completed three entire days..

Please do not teach if you do not know. I yet see you telling others they are "correct" from your profound understanding of just about everything. Study the Word if it has not been given yet by the Holy Spirit, and may God bless you alwaqys.

What kind of gibberish is this? And you are trying to correct me? According to Hebrew reckoning from sunset on Wednesday to sunset on Saturday there were three days and three night. So Christ arose AFTER sunset on Saturday (which would be the first day of the week). And more than likely after midnight and long before sunrise.

I must apologize for believe Jesus Yeshua was crucified on a Friday,. Because YOU say it is gibberish.

Now you are calling this gibberish. Have you no understanding of the Biblical calendar whatsoever? If you do not, hyou should not call it gibberiesh, you should study more.

The Feast of Unleavened Bread took place the day after Passover and lasted for seven days.

During that week the weekly Sabbath would be a second Sabbath.

Jesus ate the Passover meal in what is famously called the last supper.

He was crucified before the Feast of Unleavened Bread.

John 13:1 says the supper was BEFORE the Passover, obviously the day right before Passover; Matthew 26:17 says that day was the "first day of Unleavened Bread"; Luke 22:7 also identified the day of the Last Supper as the first day of Unleavened Bread; so for some reason, even though Leviticus 23:6 instituted the 15th day as the Unleavened Bread, one day after Passover, in Jesus's time it started one day BEFORE Passover. Nonetheless, Unleavened Bread lasts for 7 days, so the Last Supper on the first day, Passover on the second day, Sabbath on the third day, resurrection on the fourth day.

Have you got the verses from Leviticus that specifically identify these, so called, annual Sabbaths. From memory I can recall just one.

You are mistaken.

Jesus was buried on the preparation day before the Sabbath.

Luke 23:53-54
and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain. It was a preparation day, and a Sabbath was about to begin.

Please note: This verse above does not mention an annual sabbath day, just a sabbath day.

If you have scripture to support the idea, that an annual sabbath day also has a preparation day, then I would be glad to see that.

Yeah, same message is recorded in Mark 15:42.

The RCC came up with the tradition of Good Friday. Follow the RCC if you’d like. I’ll stick with scripture.

I would go with crucified on Thursday, 6th April 30 AD, and raised from the dead early on Sunday, 6th April 30 AD, and if you look at the calendar for Israel for 30 AD, it bears this out.

So, like Jonah, 3 days and 3 nights in the bowels of the earth.

Check out the calendar at www.timeanddate.com
