Do they ever DATE or did they ever date that you can remember?

Spill.. would you ever organise a date for them? Whether they are single, widowed, divorced or married..if they are married they can still can date each other. Why not?

My parents just celebrated their 41st anniversary . Quite the accomplishment if you ask me. They went out to dinner just the 2 of them.

My parents are divorced. My mother remarried twice. My father remarried once and is currently divorced again.

There is no way in the world I am going to try to get them back together again. Nope. Not gonna happen.

What if we paid you $25,000 to set them up on some fun dates in beautiful locales, and we film it?

Covid has seriously interfered with my parents' social/dating life....
But normally, they still act like a couple of kids :)

(Sorry for answering for you, @Lynx, but I'm pretty sure I already know the answer. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.) :geek:

1. Lynx's mother is happily remarried, so the only one she'd be going on dates with is her husband now.

2. You'd have to come up with another bribe other than $25,000 (and to be honest, I can't think of one that he'd be tempted by.)

Lynx, as well as a few other people I've met here on CC, are among the least likely people I've ever met to be swayed by money. The only value they see in money (aside from normal living costs) is how it can be used to help other people. And even then, they would rather earn it by themselves rather than take part in what they would see as coercion.

As for my own parents, I stopped counting when they hit their 50the anniversary. My grandparents reached 64, and it was only death that parted them.

My parents have been very blessed but there have definitely been some rough times.

I think some people look at long marriages and assume they have been wedding-day bliss all the way through, every single day, which usually just isn't true. While my parents were spared from all this, most of the other long-term Christian marriages I have been around have gone through things that almost broke them up (affairs, "not being in love anymore," death of a child, stress over health issues, loss of jobs, etc.) or led to being separated (sometimes more than once.)

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I think that when we hear about people being married for several decades, we're often unaware of all the hard work and heartache that went on (and may still be going on) behind the scenes.

Staying, or getting back together, does not always equal happiness -- sometimes it's also out of obligation or Christian duty.

My oldest brother and his wife recently celebrated 52 years of happily wedded bliss.

My twin brother has been very happily married for 43 years.

My closest-in-age sister will celebrate 46 years of the same this summer also.

Her husband once told me that she was his best friend.

I didn't get that gene

Only a quarter million? That won't even get a year of college anymore. What else ya got?

You DO know about the recent inflation spike, right? A dollar ain't worth what it used to be. You gonna have to put up a LOT more than a measly $25,000.

Wait... You didn't even offer me $250,000. You only offered a lousy TENTH of that!

(BLEEP) no!

My dad doesn't like to eat out, go out, or spend money. So, no "dates". He also prefers my mom's cooking to outside food. Thankfully, mom loves cooking and trying new recipes. Apparently my dad did like to go out and eat out before marriage, but that changed after marriage.

We didn't really eat out or do things together outside growing up. It was mostly through school and school activities (like band) for me, and I was busy with that. Most of my eating out and outside activities began when I left home for college, and after.

hmm my parents had passed their 40th anniversary and us offspring gave them a holiday but I dont remember my dad ever taking my mum out ever.

He worked at night and so they never went out, but on weekends dad would take mum is shopping to buy ingredients for dinner or to visit relatives. I dont think that really counts as a date. Mum is very fussy about where she eats and I dont know if my mum and dad have ever been to dinner ALONE since they got married, even when all of us have grown up, left home and dont need babysitters.

I am not even sure what they would do on a date..?!

Well, that was our $25k offer. We can increase the mullah with a commensurate increase on your parts.

We'd like to get a one-year commitment from both your parents, our crew will move in with them and film them daily where our audience can get to know them, and they can talk about the upcoming Parent Trap Date. They won't even know where there, mostly because of the 10 hidden cameras. So, if we can sign them up, we will present them with a $25 gift card to Apple Bees EACH!

I know it's all said in joking, but can I ask, why was the suggestion given to try to get Lynx's parents to date in the first place, seeing as she is married?

I just mention it because I've met Lynx's mom and husband, as well most of his family.

Unfortunately, I missed meeting his dad by about a week.

But seeing as his mom isn't available to date to begin with, I'm curious as to why you made the outlandish, albeit joking, offer?

I'm guessing Sculpt's real joke is, TV execs are so desperate to find the Next Big Thing in reality shows that they are willing to try anything. "Who's Your Daddy" was 17 years ago, and it can only get more outlandish and salacious from there.

But yeah Sculpt, the joke really was in poor taste... Especially in a CHRISTIAN forum. :cautious:
