They’re basically transgenders.
It is common in the islands to have faafafine’s - and they can be in any family regardless of whether there’s more males than females and vice verca in the family. I think over the years they’ve just been accepted into the way of life of this world, but I can say that I do know a few who have come out of that lifestyle and now are married happily with their wives and kids.

The disturbing thing about automatically asking (and then assuming) people are either Democrat or Republican is that it means you must think everyone on this site is from the USA.
People in the United States ALREADY have a stereotype about them that assumes they are all self-centered, ignorant, and know nothing about the world around them.
Please, let's not reinforce these beliefs.
As already noted, the person who posted this question is not from the USA, and at least 2 others who are answering are from countries other than the USA, thereby making your question -- and subsequent ridicule -- null and void for several people.
Just for future reference, a good number of regular posters here do not live in the USA, including the site owner.
Unfortunately, sometimes the transgender issues aren't always cut and dry.
I was watching a documentary about middle eastern culture in which there are very strict gender-based rules. For instance, women are not allowed to go into public places without a male. So what is a widowed mother who has all daughters to do? If she or her daughters go to the market, they will be arrested.
The documentary was explaining that in these cases, a girl in the family is chosen to be passed off as a boy, so that the family can publicly be allowed to do normal tasks, such as buying food for their family.
On the flip side, it was also explained that because there are such strict rules about where and when a female can go out socially, many of the men prefer the social company of young boys, because there are fewer or no restrictions as to where they can take them, and behind closed doors, the boys are dressed up and made to look like girls.
I am MOST CERTAINLY not trying to say that any of this is right.
I'm just saying, we live a in very broken and very complicated world, and it is truly heartbreaking.
is there a reverse, like what some people call tomboys or what would probably be now lesbians in island culture?
Just wondering. Sometimes I think it might be because of parents though its never cut and dried either.
Theres been a law recently passed against 'conversion therapy' but I dont know how that will then apply to transgenders as they are the ones who actually want to 'convert' to the opposite sex. I was reading how one nz guy in his 50s flew to argentina to get surgery and feminisation hormones to become female, it cost him $30,000.
It seemed to mean dont tell anyone about Jesus, but Ive not really seen the gospel as 'therapy' plus, you can never force beliefs on anyone.
The guy though seemd to think that being female just meant he could pass as one by wearing female clothes, doing hair, and wearing makeup without looking like a drag queen. So I dont know even after reading his/her memoir 'faking it' . He remained married to his wife though and they didnt have any children. I dont think being trans stops you from being married, since you can now marry any gender.

For someone so wise and worldly as you to be so "disturbed" by common political leanings is quite telling...
I don't believe anyone in the WORLD is unaware of what the Democrats have been teaching children about gender identity in America...

I can't see any dire need to somehow want your benefit of the doubt, rest assured.
It's just odd that you seem to expect everyone, even outside of the USA, to delegate things through the same politics as yourself.
I'm certainly not saying they're not concerning.
I'm just saying, why would you expect people in other countries to filter their conversations about gender through the lens of the politics in the USA?
Wise and wordly -- no, I am not.
But I don't think it's fair to expect the rest of the world to break everything down into Republican vs. Democrat, especially when they live on the other side of the world.

You should really get out………….of America and see the rest of God’s beautiful creation through other countries.
There isn’t much of a reverse but it’s also like western culture for tomboys….they’d be labeled as tomboys or lesbians… there isn’t a specific “name” like the fafafines.
I recall watching this doco about this man who did the whole body transformation into a woman and then later regretting it saying the insides of him felt the same and never changed for him as it did physically.
He’s now a Christian but decided to keep his trans operation as a reminder of why he tried to disobey God in the first place.
i dont think ppl can actually choose the gender of their child before they are born, they can only sort of know through a sonogram - though that is not always accurate.
I couldnt choose what I would look like or be either, only be thankful that God made me this way given that we are not perfect anyway and everyones genes and chromosomes all sort of get mixed up from Adam and Eve onwards.
If people feel uncomfortable with the expressions of their chromosomes or genes I dont know if there is any 'cure' for that. I think you just need to appreciate each gender and value them regardless of whether male or female in the flesh (as a parent) as as our souls are genderless anyway.
