I read Little House on the Pararie series, in those books Laura moved a bunch of times, and they lived in 'little houses' but then she was a child at the time so it would have seemed quite big to her.
The family was 3 or 4 children. They lived in sod houses at first or dug outs, or houses made of logs.
I recall one book they literally had to keep the wolf from the door and another they were snowed in and were burning wheat stalks for weeks.
The dad was constantly on the move in their wagons trying to find a piece of land and the mum got a bit fed up and wanted the girls to go to school and have a house in town where there were people, otherwise shed be stuck all day in a tiny house with children and nobody else to talk to.
Of course Laura made it seem like so much fun in her books but I bet it was hard, especially when their house caught fire.

They are a glorified camping trailer. The insurance is the same. The lots you can live on are the same.
I can purchase a used fifth wheel trailer for a fraction of the cost and burn half the gas as I move around in a mobile lifestyle. And a person living in one of these will have a highly mobile lifestyle.
Camping trailer parks are notorious for having bad neighbors. Just saying.

When Laura Ingalls Wilder finally settled down with her husband, she lived on 40 acres of land in a HUGE house. It was 1 and a half storeys high and had 10 rooms, 6 on the first floor and 3 above. (maybe the extra room was the tiny house)
She had only one surviving child, daughter Rose who saved up and bought her mother ANOTHER house. On the same land. But Laura and her hsuband didnt like the one she bought (Rose cottage) and moved back to their big farmhouse (Rocky Ridge)
now her house has been turned into a museum. 2 more houses were built on their land, to house the musueum curator and visitors, but then, because they were not in the style of the original house, they got razed.
?! all the other houses she lived in as a child, what's left of them, also got turned into museums.

There is a tiny home manufacturer only a mile or so from where I live, and it is flat amazing how much they can cram into such a small space. Ultimately they are built on the concept of no wasted space anywhere.
If it was just me I could do a tiny house, but with a wife and 2 dogs my 950sqft town home feels crowded. What kills me is that no one builds "starter" homes in the 1200sqft range anymore it's either crackerjack box townhomes or 2500sqft houses which is just ridiculously large for two people.
I'm with JimJimmers, small house huge garage/shop.

I've thought about a tiny house. And my manufactured home is fairly small. Bigger than I need actually, but it's good to have some space (2 bed, 2 bath). But I have thought about going fully mobile and living out of a vehicle or boat and that would DEFINITELY be tiny.
The biggest challenge would be where to store all my books. I don't know that a tiny house would be the best fit for that.
My current plan is to find some land eventually, move the house over to that, and expand the property with greenhouses and small outbuildings as needed. This could also mean building some tiny houses for guests or family. It seems like a better approach than moving to a bigger house every time more space is needed or the family grows.

Two thumbs up for a wider tiny house. Still tiny but moe square than narrow. Tiny, with lots of windows. I want modern technology though. I love the idea of living off the grid, but honestly, too spoiled. I love me some internet and tv, lol. They, tiny houses, can be costly though as mentioned earlier, not the living in them, but the purchase...eeks!!!!
