Hi all. We live in an era of extreme propaganda - being put out by ALL governments - so I wanted to share some thoughts and resources about what is going on between Russia and Ukraine right now. Take it all - including what I tell you - with a grain or two of salt and be careful about letting yourself be manipulated with falsehoods.
Keep in mind that one of the USA's NDAAs - National Defense Act Authorization, one is passed every year - actually overturned several historic anti-propaganda laws and MADE IT COMPLETELY LEGAL FOR THE US GOVERNMENT TO LIE TO ITS CITIZENS. This happened more than a decade ago.
I think I realized that this was going to be a propaganda-clouded conflict when I saw that three outlets - Fox, CNN, and The Gateway Pundit - were all running conflicting accounts of the same story. The only thing they all agreed on was that a military plane crashed in a residential area in Kiev. One said it was a Russian plane, shot down by Ukraine air defenses, yay freedom yay, etc. Another said, no, it was a Ukrainian fighter shot down by a Russian fighter in a dogfight. The third source said no, it was a Ukrainian plane shot down accidentally by friendly fire.
You've probably heard some propaganda already:
Did a Ukrainian fighter pilot nicknamed "The Ghost of Kiev" shoot down six Russian fighter jets in one day? No, this didn't happen. Propaganda.
Did courageous Ukrainians at the Snake Island garrison tell a Russian warship to "F- off" right before the Russians killed them all by shelling the island? No, this did not happen. The Ukrainians surrendered immediately and were captured by the Russians, confirmed after the event by both Moscow and Kiev. The initial story was propaganda.
Are Russians deploying mobile crematoriums in order to hide their massive casualties? No, pictures of "mobile crematoriums" are over a decade old and are from a Russian company that invented a mobile trash incinerator for disaster situations, not a crematorium for bodies, and the Russians are not using them in Ukraine now. Another propaganda story.
Where is this propaganda coming from? A lot of it is from the Ukrainians, who are taking to social media and posting a lot of garbage in English in order to influence Western perception. Then the corrupt Big Tech machine of the West has also been cranking out propaganda on Ukraine's behalf. Official Russian outlets are banned from Twitter and YouTube, and YouTube is censoring and suppressing content and blocking access to content to users in Ukraine.
What is clear is that Ukraine is very divided and their leadership is increasingly desperate. Prisons have been emptied and 25,000 automatic weapons were given out to anyone who wanted one so they could fight the Russians... except this has not really happened. Incidents of violence erupted as factions have taken advantage of the chaos to settle scores and improve their own situations. I have heard accounts of Ukrainians ambushing their own troops, and in some places Ukrainians are cheering for Russian troops as they come through, seeing them as liberators, not oppressors.
Some other things the media isn't saying is that there was significant violence prior to Russia's incursion into Ukraine. I found a map of explosions in Ukraine due to shelling, whether from factions or the Ukrainian forces, I couldn't fully settle, but the targeted areas were in the two breakaway Republics that Russia is moving to "protect." Over 14,000 civilians have died in those regions at the hands of other Ukrainians I am told. Some sources are also saying Putin is moving to secured bioweapons research facilities run jointly by the USA and Ukraine. Something else not being discussed much is NATO stationing missile systems in nations bordering Russia, some of these weapons platforms are within 100 miles of the Russian border and Russia has always made it clear that it sees these as a threat of future violence.
This is likely not a just war on either side. Ukraine has a corrupt government and much has been said about the Azov Battalion and its ties to a white power agenda (this military unit also has a political party founded by the founder of the Azov unit). I certainly do not think Putin is as pure as the driven snow, but the media's attempt to make him out to be a new Hitler is a propagandist argument missing significant historical context. And the West has certainly done much to box Russia in and MAKE them the new bad guys. War is profitable, after all, for the oligarchs who rule over us.
Another thing that is going on as this conflict continues is a spiritual awakening in both Russia and Ukraine. I am told that in Russia, a Christian movement that rejects the ritualism of the Orthodox church is spreading rapidly as people search for answers to what is going on right now. Likewise, despite the difficulties in Ukraine, the church is weathering these trials. My pastor also mentioned today that Ukraine is the nation which sends the most Christian missionaries out into other European countries. Good things may yet come out of this evil.
