It's funny because when I think of "favorite TV shows," I immediately think of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons.

I have a hard time explaining to "the young people" :) that "back in my day," there was no cable television (at least, my family didn't have the money or desire to pay for it,) no Cartoon Network, no Nickelodeon and no Disney channel. Cartoons were a rare occurrence on TV and so you cherished the times they were on and you actually got to view them.

Once upon a time, there were 3 major networks who ran Saturday Morning Cartoons from 8 AM to noon, and that was it, aside from the time when they also ran cartoons for a couple of hours on weekdays after school.

And so, when I think of favorite shows, I immediately think of things such as:

* Dungeons and Dragons (I grew up during the heavy controversy surrounding the game; I was never into the game but the Saturday morning cartoon was my favorite of all time, seeing as I was bound and determined to marry Hank. I'm sorry Sheila, but you need to take that cloak and make yourself invisible permanently.)

* Transformers G1 (Generation 1.) I know there are several other reiterations out there but I have yet to check into them. Optimus Prime was the ultimate cartoon father figure.

* Spiderman and His Amazing Friends. (Even as a kid, I knew some of the storylines they were tackling were kind of heavy and I loved that.)

* The X-Men (I could have done without Jubilee, but the banter Wolverine had with everyone, especially Gambit, was just classic.)

* Pole Position (What can I say, I'm a sucker for talking cars.)

I've always loved cartoons but unfortunately, I seem to be one of those people who is stuck being a product of her own time. I've tried watching newer shows, but I can't help pine for a continuation of the old (a GOOD continuation, not the reboots and "reimaginations" they keep ruining my childhood with these days) rather than what I find to be so stale and lacking in humor and insight in most of the shows of today.
My cartoons are the classics. Bugs Bunny, Popeye, Hanna Barbera. I did however get into Dexter's Laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Powerpuff Girls, and Johnny Bravo.

Heyyy mama, take a look at these pecs! *Whoosh-snap* Then... *crack* across his head.

I like The Office a lot.
I used to watch Grey's Anatomy, Glee, and Friends. But it eventually made me uncomfortable. Too many worldly ideas: LGBTQ, premarital sex, atheism... I don't judge others who watch them because I used to too. But I just don't enjoy them anymore. I think that sort of thing can penetrate your mind and mess around with your spirituality. There was a point where I was rooting for gay characters to get together in Grey's Anatomy. That's when I realized I needed to stop watching it.

I still watch the cartoons I grew up with: Hey Arnold, Rugrats, The Simpsons, and King of the Hill.

The Andy Griffith Show (BW episodes only)
Leave It To Beaver
Fraser
Longmire
Barney Miller
This Old House

Scrapped local news when it was all fear porn in 2020

Some good choices. Really dig Barney Miller and Fraser. Don't mind the Beave, either.

Yeah, Dungeons and Dragons! Yeah, I loved that show too! (I actually played the game too, which was great narrative fun!) I also liked Thundar the Barbarian, was in that vein. I really liked Spiderman and His Amazing Friends, that was cool action animation. I don't remember the heavy storylines, I'll have to watch a couple on youtube and see what I remember. Also liked X-Men (the Wolverine/Gambit banter was hilarious), Super Friends, the original Scobie Doo.

If you like humorous artsy creative pro-funny voice delivery animation... checkout the original season of Ren & Stimpy.

I don't really spend much time in front of the TV....other than occasionally watching The Simpsons. And maybe Family Guy here and there.

And I don't want to forget Dexter. I was way into that show back in the day.

I think I was more into TV when I was a kid. I grew up in the 90's and Nickelodeon was awesome back then. 😊

Reminded me... I thought Ren and Stimpy was genius, the originals (1991–1993 only, before John Kricfalusi got fired). And love the Simpsons too. A lot of great shows.

The old black and white Felix the Cat with the bag of tricks were super creative. I really dug them.

Good set of shows. Reminded me loved Leave It To Beaver, the show was a great find, thought it was hilarious! The early Andy Griffith Shows were really good too. Some biting stuff sometimes, especially when Opie killed the bird... tough love. I really like the 1st season of Longmire. Barney Miller had some great episodes too.

How about Combat! and 12 O'Clock High?
Ya know, I never got into those. My uncle was big time into Combat though (he served in the army a couple of years). I always remember the opening credits / graphics of the dot-patterned bayonets. The things that stick in your mind as a kid.

My dad fought the Nazis.

My dad fought the Nazis.
Was that the appeal then? I could understand that.

I loved Fury, Dunkirk, Darkest Hour, & 1917. But, those're movies.

Yeah, I don't get into the military / war TV show. MASH never really grabbed me either. I love war films though.

When I played army as a child, I dressed up in the Nazi uniform my dad took from a German soldier. He'd spit on my dad...bad idea. Spent the rest of the war in his long-johns.
T.V. was heavily influence by WW2 during the early 60s. It traumatized a lot of people. One might think war would be the last thing vets would want to think about, but such is PTSD.
