2 Corinthians 7:1 ERV

7 Dear friends, we have these promises from God. So we should make ourselves pure—free from anything that makes our body or our soul unclean. Our respect for God should make us try to be completely holy in the way we live.

I say ------So what are the promises -----and how can God's Children stay and live Holy lives ----

So you do need to go back to 2 Corinthians 6 :14-18 and that tells us what the promises are -------He will be our God and we will be His people -----

2 Corinthians 6 ERV
We Are God’s Temple

14 You are not the same as those who don’t believe. So don’t join yourselves to them. Good and evil don’t belong together. Light and darkness cannot share the same room.

15 How can there be any unity between Christ and the devil[a]? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?

16 God’s temple[b] cannot have anything to do with idols, and we are the temple of the living God. As God said,

“I will live with them
and walk with them;
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.”

17 “So come away from those people
and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord.
Don’t touch anything that is not clean,
and I will accept you.”

18 “I will be your father,
and you will be my sons and daughters,

says the Lord All-Powerful.”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When we become Born Again our Spirit is made Holy -----our old life is Hidden in Christ ----and therefore we should want to mature in our Holy Walk with Christ -------but here is the thing -----our Soul is not Holy ----Mind --Will and Emotions are still thinking and acting in our old human ways of the world --so we have to aline our Soul ---with out Spirit -- and that is our Job ----and it is not an easy peasy job -----we will never truly have our Soul fully Holy before we die -----but we should strive to do the best we can to bring the soul in aliment with our Holy Spirit -

Colossians 3:1-4 ESV
Put On the New Self
3 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your[a] life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:22-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:3-11‬ ‭KJV‬

“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:13-14, 16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I was born again of spiritual seed through the word. The regenerating work of the Holy Spirit works in tandem with hearing the word.

1 Peter 1:23 does not say that the spirit within the born again believer is incorruptible; but that the word by which he is born again is incorruptible.
It’s actually saying the seed born of the gospel is incorruptible , by the word of God the gospel which is eternal

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”

I know it may be controversial, but I'm beginning to believe nothing miraculous happened to me when I was born again except that the Spirit of Christ came into me. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Through years of conditioning I was taught that I was "zapped" and instantly became something new. But the more I read the scriptures the more I'm tossing out this notion. I'm a sinner—still. The only way I will be able to overcome sin is through Christ in me.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."—Philippians 4:13

as your searching scriptures it’s changing your mind and calling you to repentance . Its not instant it’s just like you are describing as we persevere Christ makes us grow and mature and become better over time.

repentance is when our minds change to be against sin and we realize it’s rat poison for the soul. The more of the gospel we abide in the more freedom we know in Christ from sins grasp and snare

it’s a process over a lifetime walking after the lord understanding that acknowledging our sins and repenting is a promise of forgiveness and cleansing from unrighteousness

no ones perfect yet brother but from faith to faith and glory to glory we see changes into his image because we do just what your experiencing letting scriptire change our minds and reveal truth

When we look into the gospel we’re seeing God clearly

“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:4, 6‬ ‭

“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Gods revealing thkngs to you it’s why your perception is changing towards conviction against sin knowing it’s an issue.

“revealed from faith to faith “ shows us it’s a process as we learn more we grow more and change more and walk in those things more and more because it’s what we believe it leads us into the thkngs of God including repentance and righteousness.

our struggle not just yours is to keep our faith fixed on Jesus and his word of life he’s able to change us through faith your just noticing the changes happening within.

later a season of sorrow may come depending on your response to what’s being taught to you inside your heart by the scripture . It’s what godly sorrow is constituted of and leads us into repentance and life

are you without sin ?

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭1:8-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

I do not say that I am without sin, and neither do I say that I have not sinned...

However, those who have been sanctified wholly (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24) also are not without sin; while the element of sin has been rendered dead within them (Romans 6:6, Galatians 5:24, Romans 7:8); so that it no longer has any say over their behaviour (Romans 6:14).

Because as sanctified, set free believers in Christ, we are not obligated to obey the flesh (Romans 8:12 (kjv, NLT)).

And therefore we can walk in consistent victory and freedom, not after the flesh but after the Spirit, for an extended period of time; even for the rest of our lives (Luke 1:74-75).

What does that word "all" mean in 1 John 1:7,9?

I am also not arguing for the idea that there is no forgiveness if we do sin;

What I am arguing for is the concept that we do not have to commit sin as believers who have been filled with the Holy Ghost.

And also, that there is an integral change that happens in the heart of a person when they have been born again.

yeah you know the scripture like this

“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning.

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:4-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

that’s meant to turn our belief from “ my actions don’t matter I’m already saved “ to “ I can’t keep sinning and claiming I’m saved “ it’s meant to change how we believe and it is to be taken in with the rest there about repentance and confession and forgiveness .

If you acknowledge this part it will make sense

“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:14

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law:

for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2:16, 19-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭7:4-6‬ ‭

we can’t sin because sin is defined by the law and we aren’t under the law we already does according to our sin under it you sinned you doed in christs death tonthe law

now it’s about what Jesus said and he’s not defining sin or goving the knowledge of sin like Moses Jesus is giving the knowledge of righteousness without the law that imputes sin

“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

our law is the gospel it’s not imputing sin it offers repentance and remission of sins to be preached until the end of the world

if we aren’t of the law oir sins can be forgiven through the gospel and we can start learning Gods true word of righteousness and life and learn inside that sin is our enemy and it’s poisoning our soul so we need to repent d turn toward the thkngs of God manifest not in the law of sin and death but the gospel of righteousness and eternal

I would say, also, that the law is written on the hearts and in the minds of New Covenant believers (Hebrews 8:8-10, Hebrews 10:16, Romans 8:7, Romans 8:4, 1 John 5:3, 2 John 1:6, Romans 13:8-10; Romans 5:5; 1 John 2:3-6);

In that the love of the Lord is shed abroad in our hearts and this love is the fulfilling of the righteousness of the law within us.

So, as we are led of the Spirit, we are not only no longer under the law but we will inadvertently be obedient to the moral tenets of the law.

But all of what you said above is true.

As concerning condemnation, we are not under the law (Romans 6:14, Galatians 3:24-25, Galatians 5:18), are dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19), and are delivered from the law (Romans 7:6, Ephesians 2:15-16, Colossians 2:14, Hebrews 7:18-19).

While as concerning obedience we are under the law to Christ (1 Corinthians 9:21).
