Novak Djokovic has fallen foul of Australia's immigration laws. He had a visa, but that apparently is not good enough for Border Force or many of the Australian public. Some of the rhetoric has been brutal and insulting. Anyone would have thought that Djokovic was a career criminal trying to dodge immigration laws. No, he's a tennis player, invited to come on a 25 hour plane trip to entertain Australians. It costs him a great deal of time and money. Of course, he can afford the money.
This case has exposed an unpleasant side of many Australian's nature. We are supposedly friendly and welcoming. Too many have jumped to conclusions before all the facts are out. I'm glad that Djokovic has taken this to court. I hope he wins the case. The federal government could still throw him out. It depends on how bloody minded they choose to be.
