6He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. 7That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!

9When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn.

Jesus did the same thing earlier in the scriptures when He called His disciples.

Luke 5:4And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking.

The disciples heard someone calling out to them, but didn't know who He was. When they caught the fish, they knew it was a miracle, so John cried out "It's the Lord!"

Jesus was simply proving to them who He was. It was nothing to do with how many fish there were except it was a bigger haul than last time & the net didn't break, proving the miracle.

Being 153 had no other significance at all!

The numerologists on this forum need to repent for mistranslating the Scripture!

Numbers have great significance in Scripture. The fact that John recorded precisely 153 fish at that time does have spiritual significance.

Furthermore, God is the Divine Mathematician, and the universe is based upon mathematics. Once again, there is divine precision in everything otherwise there would be no natural laws. But there are also spiritual laws which follow a precise pattern.

and sometimes it really is just a fish story

that's what I think

I just prayed about not knowing how to change the time (yeah I'm late doing it) on my Bose cd player...can't find the book

so I said 'dear Lord can you please just help me know how to change the time on this thing?' so I sat down in front of it with the remote, tried a few things...nope...then my eyes fell on the 'time' buttons....which were there all the time, but I guess I can be as myopic as the next person, and voila...time changed. Thank you God!

it's just really simple sometimes. God is a mystery to those who do not know Him. Let us not make Him a mystery that He is not

ps: God does stuff like that for me all the time. just ask...He will answer just like with the disciples...He knows where the fish are ;)
So very essential we stay in contact, in communication with Him with EVERY thought, word and deed. He really IS "an ever present help in times of trouble". Helping find lost items, traffic directions, "turn here" has been one of His instructions to me, giving us guidance in ALL things.... it goes on and on and on.

I don't see how since everyone seems to have their own "version" of what it means. If no one agrees at all, usually there's no symbolism there at all.

Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.

Jonah's story is the big fish story in the Bible. Some people have a hard time believing that one though.
