It is necessary.

How is anyone going to know where the critical reference of [due/true] 'north' is?

If you want to convince me - without my actually being there to witness it - you're going to do it in a way that is as-nearly-as-possible convincing as if I were there witnessing it myself.

You're willy-nilly suggestion of "just take my word for it" is simply not good enough.

Even "simple physics" - if it is good science - requires making/taking good accurate measurements and proper data recording.

In reality, those to whom you are trying to prove something decide what is "adequate proof" (for them).

If I am going to try to prove something to you - who decides what is "adequate proof" - you or me?

Be honest!

If I say the earth is flat and that what I am going to show you will be "adequate proof" - is that sufficient for you? Or, will you tell me "No, I will decide what will convince me." and expect me to accept that you have to be "convinced" on your terms?

I know you are smart enough to give the right answer here - the only question is - will you...???

If you think that I (or anyone else) is "asking too much" for proof - that is another issue altogether.

However, myself-and-others are not so weak-minded that we will accept your "just take my word for it" attitude and proposal without question.
If you gave my proposal sufficient thought, you would understand that it would provide sufficient proof.

I don't know how you came to that conclusion. One thing is for sure, they were a sight smarter than a lot of college educated kids today. The fact that you get to vote is courtesy of the Greeks. Quite a bit of the English language is based on Greek words. If you knew any history, you would know that they were a highly advanced civilisation. They were also corrupt in many ways, brutal, and slavery was the norm. They were smarter than the Englishman whose flawed experiment led him to the wrong conclusion.
And they believed in many gods.
Doesn't sound too smart to me.

You’re confusing “smart” with “wise”. Intelligence and spiritual orthodoxy are not synonymous or even causally related.

1 Corinthians 1:18-19;
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
For it is written; I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.

Proverbs 4:25;
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.

Don't get sidetracked.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Did y'all know it's okay to let somebody be wrong?

If you meet somebody who is determinedly, obstinately wrong, somebody who ignores all evidence contrary to his own chosen viewpoint and insists on being wrong in the face of all reason, it is okay to just let him be wrong. Whether the Earth is flat or a ball, it will not crack wide open and swallow all of us if the person continues being wrong.

Really. It's okay to just let it go. I promise the sky will not fall down if you let people continue to be wrong.

Hmm... Difficult to say. I do NOT believe we're on a flat earth, but I was curious how FE people answered some things. Gary and Moses provided some interesting answers.

There have been no useful posts in the last few pages though. Just a lot of "I'm right, you're wrong, and I think you're really dumb!" from both sides.

I saw the reference to "spiritual orthodoxy" and it threw me.
"spiritual" to me means the Holy Spirit and temporarily and to a much lesser degree the adversaries realm, and "orthodoxy" means adherence to a manmade creed. So it's almost an oxymoron.

The post about cats pushing everything off of a flat earth cracked me up! Written by a cat owner, for sure. Maybe I need another kitty-cat.

I have a friend in a mountain log home, the cat finally figured out how to climb up on a high cross beam and look down soundlessly, she lost it for hours one day until she saw it up there.

I'm sorry, you'll have to ask your rabbi about that.
How would anyone else know what you were thinking? That's just wacky.

Maybe you haven't spent enough time interacting with other people; you certainly don't seem to get the concept of answering straightforward questions with straightforward answers.

Nah, I'm not even taking this thread seriously any more. I'm mostly scanning it for the entertainment value now.

It sure was nice though, back when we actually discussed things a few pages ago. A lot better than this peeing match y'all got going on now.
Exactly, it's a high entertainment venue.

It does not matter - his point was well made - and true whatever the POV - because - it is not about the POV so much as it is about a person's attitude toward another and an unwillingness to "allow" (in their own mind) the other person to state an opinion and "let it stand" as such - without reacting negatively against the other person just because the other person does not agree with them.

It is often best to simply agree to disagree...

If the earth were flat, it would matter what side you were on...or would it? And what would be on the bottom side, dirt? Lol
