I believe it is demonic--I have seen videos of this behavior (included one below). I can't believe that anyone who is a Christian would participate in this--it is not joyful -- it is like watching people in an insane asylum--it's chaotic, disturbing; this hysterical laughter is not found anywhere in scripture. We must "test all things" to see whether they are of God. Where did you see Jesus or the apostles or the believers laughing uncontrollably? There are many false teachers and believers in our churches today. Can you imagine someone coming as a visitor to a church and witnessing this? "Wouldn't they say you are out of your mind?"

"But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.-"-1st Corinthians 14:40

What is Holy Laughter

..."The most convincing scriptural argument against what is called "holy laughter" is found in Galatians 5:22-23. It says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." If self-control is a fruit of the Spirit of God, how can uncontrollable laughter also be a fruit of His Spirit? Revival leaders claim that being filled with the Spirit means that we are sort of "tossed about" by His whims. But the idea that God would make people act drunk or laugh uncontrollably or make animal noises as a result of the Spirit’s anointing is directly opposed to the way the Spirit acts, according to Galatians 5:22-23. The Spirit described in Galatians 5 is one who promotes self-control within us, not the opposite. Finally, there was no one in the Bible more filled with the Holy Spirit than Jesus, and not once does the Bible ever record Him laughing....

Other manifestions (holy laughter similar to Indian Cult) http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/laugh1.htm

Yet another interesting factor is that Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh was called the "divine drunkard" by his followers.(32) Hundreds of people flew to India to "drink" from Rajneesh's "wine."(33) "Often referred to as being 'drunk on the divine,' Rajneesh encouraged his followers to come and 'drink' from him. Bhagvhan's (sic) spiritual 'wine' was often passed along with a single touch to the head. Many of his Sannyasins [disciples] would fall to the floor in ecstasy after their encounters with Rajneesh."(34) (Does this sound strangely familiar?! Something is wrong with the church when it starts to experience the same phenomena as the occultists.)

I suppose that that entire church was possessed by demons...

Self-control is not compromised when people feel free to laugh in the Spirit...

They are not losing control of themselves but are receiving the freedom to express their emotions in a setting where they are not being judged for doing so.

I guess that the reality of whether or not it is of God or of the devil would be found in doing research into the lives of the people who were involved and finding out whether they went on to serve God or ended up in a lifestyle of abject sinning.

I have experienced this and would testify that it has a healing effect psychologically on those who are able to experience this freedom.

2Sa 6:16, And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
2Sa 6:17, And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
2Sa 6:18, And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
2Sa 6:19, And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.
2Sa 6:20, Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!
2Sa 6:21, And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
2Sa 6:22, And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.
2Sa 6:23, Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

Christians cannot be demon-possessed.

Eph 1:13, In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Eph 1:14, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

1Jo 4:4, Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Laughter or he laughs, Jesus comes through Isaac.
That is without a doubt "holy laughter".

Jesus may come through Isaac, but He just as well comes through Abrahm and Jacob called Israel also. After all, to fulfill prophecy, He was born to the Tribe of Judah, descended from Judah.

Abraham, father of the peoples.
Jacob, supplanter.
Israel,, said to be God contended, however ish, man and ra ruler or prince,, and El, God, is another understanding, and din light of te prophecies the latter seems to fit exactly for the Israelof God is is to rule with Him......

Did God name him laughter? Isaac was his name not laughter God did not say that your seed will be called in laughter. He said in Isaac (son of Abraham) your seed will be called.

Also who translated his name to be laughter? Was it God or man? and exactly why was his name translated to be laughter?

The scripture says that Sarah laughed in unbelief when she was told she would have a child at the age of 90 and the Lord called her out on her unbelief and laughing at what God had said. She even tried to lie and say that she did not laugh.

Genesis 18
12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

13 And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?

14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.

I don't know about being possessed by demons, but it is apparent they were entertaining the wrong spirit.

Scripture warns us to be careful what spirit we entertain because it might well bear with us.

Many of these folks have been misled by greedy "so-called preachers" who are out to deceive for worldly gain.

Seems many in the church have no discernment or they would not entertain those worldly money-hungry preachers. They are willing to go along with and give audience to those filthy deceivers, and in so doing they get carried away with them in the wrong spirit.

"But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping."--2 Peter 2:1-3

Hi Rollo, You may want to see the reason he was named that--see verses 1ofthem posted below. Isaac's name is in reference to Sarah's derisive laughter of disbelief, when told by God they would have a child in their old age.

You said because Isaac means laughter "that is without a doubt 'holy laughter'--how so? Where do you see in the scriptures Jesus, the apostles or any of the believers exercising Holy Laughter? All gifts of the Holy Spirit are listed in the bible. Where do you see Holy Laughter listed?

"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."--1st John 4:1

You're right 1ofthem--it could be what is called group hysteria--people will sometimes take on the behavior of the group. Perhaps I could have called the movement itself, 'the doctrine of demons' as I believe it is demonic and in some cases the people too, but not all--I agree with you on that.

I agree. Christians cannot be demon possessed--I corrected myself in another post saying it could be mass hyteria--that is behavior that beguns to be mimiced in others. There's a name for phenomena--i can't recall what it is. However, the one leader with the bizarre laughter and being held up by the other men--and likely many others you see on these 'holy laughter' videos are demon possessed and therefore cannot be true

I agree. Christians cannot be demon possessed, so anyone who behaves in this manner is likely not a Christian. Additionally, I corrected myself in another post saying it could also be mass hysteria--that is behavior that spreads in a group. There's a name for this phenomena--I can't recall what it is. However, I do believe some of them are demon possessed.

Where is David laughing hysterically here? This is a momentous occasion and David is leaping and dancing for JOY--in an out of doors procession--it is a celebration! "There is a time and place for everything" And I'd say dancing is appropriate here.

"2 Then King David was told, “The Lord has blessed Obed-edom’s household and everything he has because of the Ark of God.” So David went there and brought the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with a great celebration."--2 Samuel 6:12

I've always felt sorry for those people who are misled in those congregations.

However, I had a friend that told me that it was pretty much their own fault for going along with it... because there was something about the message that enticed them such as the "prosperity gospel" message that all Christians will be rich, healthy, and never have to suffer in this life. Which is not Biblical.

He said they were drawn in and enticed with those flattering words and then got carried away in the other "fake" experiences going on there.

I'm not exactly sure what to say about their spiritual status. I don't know their hearts only God does, but I do still pray for them that if they are not saved that they will be, and if they are that God would open their spiritual eyes and ears and that the Lord would give them discernment so that they would not continue to be deceived.
