By definition they cannot speak what is false. So if they do speak what is false then they are false prophets. Period. Why is it so hard to believe that there are NO true prophets today since the apostle John shut that door 2000 years ago? Whatever God wanted to reveal has been revealed. And it is more that enough.
Kinda. Whatever needs be said has been said, but only to that audience. A lot of people can't take what they see on a page and relate it to their current life. It has to hit them in the face, so to speak, and be applied to their situation. That's why I think of prophesy now as a restating of old information to a new audience.

This is all about power grabs and ear-tickling. Christians today DO NOT need prophets, neither do they need the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR).

"The New Apostolic Reformation, or NAR, is an unbiblical religious movement that emphasizes experience over Scripture, mysticism over doctrine, and modern-day “apostles” over the plain text of the Bible. Of particular distinction in the New Apostolic Reformation are the role and power of spiritual leaders and miracle-workers, the reception of “new” revelations from God, an over-emphasis on spiritual warfare, and a pursuit of cultural and political control in society. The seeking of signs and wonders in the NAR is always accompanied by blatantly false doctrine." GotQuestions.org

New Apostolic Reformation (NAR)
The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is a dominionist movement which asserts that God is restoring the lost offices of church governance, namely the offices of Prophet and Apostle. BereanResearch.org

There are neither genuine apostles nor genuine prophets today. So what do we have? Wolves in sheep's clothing.

Also Grudem is a dyed-in-the-wool Calvinist. So all of a sudden he is appealing to the Charismatics. What next?
The Body of Christ is still on the Earth and as long as she is on the Earth, she will need and be provided Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers by the Holy Spirit so that she is edified and made ready at Christ’s coming.

Not by human reasoning or intellect but, ONLY by the Word AND Holy Spirit will True Believers recognize and know a true apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor and teacher.

We are NOT to follow man but we are to follow Christ (Word of God) AND be lead by the Holy Spirit.

Satan always has counterfeits, such as false prophet and anti-christ which counterfeits John the Baptist and Jesus Christ.

Everything FALSE is just Satan’s tactics that will deceive those relying on their human reasoning and intellect.

We MUST be transformed by the renewing of our mind with the Word of God being taught and given understanding by the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Thanks for posting with a bigger text size, sister. I just realized how to do it after reading your post, and the default text size at this forum is a bit too small for my tastes as well. :) They should default to something like 18 (Just my opinion).

Maybe, if they were true apostles and prophets. The NAR is a circus sideshow full of clowns and false prophets.

op: More "puzzle pieces (apostles & prophets) fall in place"?

Precious friends, IF the apostles (With the power of God "to raise the dead!") is Still one of God's appointments today, Where Is "The Evidence"?

IF the "gift of PROPHECY" is Still in effect Today, Under GRACE, Then:

(1) "That Which IS PERFECT," has not come!

(2) God HAS NOT "MAGNIFIED HIS PERFECT Word of TRUTH, ABOVE ALL Of HIS HOLY Name!" Denying God's INSPIRED Word Of Truth To king David (Psalms 138:2) FULL "study":

3 gifts Superseded By THREE Gifts

(3) IF God's Word IS IMPERFECT (as Many prophetic experts think!), THEN:

who of us is EVEN "Saved By The INCORRUPTIBLE (PERFECT!) Word Of TRUTH"?

May God Have MERCY... HE Is NOT, repeat NOT the (wicked) author of ALL Of this Confusion! (1 Corinthians 14:33)...

Amen.

I'm just curious. If a prophet must be grounded in the word, and not prophecy anything that contradicts God's word, why do we need prophets? Teachers, yeah. But it seems prophecy is irrelevant if it must always conform to God's word. Why not just study God's word? Am I making sense?
God's word refers to the two covenants. A covenant is a contract, like a mortgage agreement. It is detailed, legally binding, and requires both parties to do various things.

That said just because you have a mortgage agreement to buy a house does not mean that is the only thing you have ever said or will ever say. Obviously you would never say anything that would be contrary to that mortgage agreement since it is a legally binding document.

For example the address of the mortgage company is probably on the contract and no doubt the address of the house that you are buying would have to be on that contract. But the location where you are going to actually sign it may not be on that contract, nor would they give you directions to that place. Also, the date that you sign the contract would be on the contract but not necessarily the time of day. So I would want to know where I'm supposed to go, what time I'm supposed to be there and directions how to get there.

In 1 Corinthians 14 Paul tells them to desire the gift of prophecy and gave instructions for how the congregation should judge the validity of alleged prophecies. So prophecies didn't fail at the the time of Paul's writing in 1 Corinthians 13. Nor is there a verse that says when spiritual gifts are ended. So there's no reason to interpret this the way you have.

The Holy Spirit would ONLY provide TRUE Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers…

However, only by the Holy Spirit will we know and recognize a True one. Without the Holy Spirit, we can be deceived. We cannot even understand the scriptures correctly without the Holy Spirit.

First, after being saved we need to seek a relationship with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit…we got to recognize their voices so we don’t believe the voice of the enemy.

Relationships take time but, eventually we become well acquainted with the Word of God (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit, and even our Heavenly Father.

The Holy Spirit teaches us the scriptures and we become more and more grounded in God’s Truth.

True Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers will edify, strengthen and give life to the Believers while exalting and giving ALL glory to Jesus Christ.

The apostles and prophets are already with us in the Bible, since that which is perfect (complete) is now with every Christian. And the book of Revelation has shut the door to any additional apostles and prophets (or do you wish to contradict the Holy Spirit through John?)

So which gifts remain for the edification of the Church? (1) evangelists, (2) pastors, and (3) teachers. These are supposed to be gifted men, but not all who claim to minister are actually gifted.

Nope. Sorry RA but it seems you've got tunnel vision when it comes to this subject. Prophets don't just talk about just huge mega things but things might effect a certain area. In Acts 11:27-28we read the Prophet Agubus warned of a famine that was coming to the middle east and the warning was to the people of that region to get ready for it. Gentile churches through Paul actually took up collections for them. Something like that today you wouldn't see a warning of it in the actual scriptures'. eg If a drought and famine came to a U.S. state where would you find it in the Bible? You wouldn't. Or if one was in prayer about ministry today, a Prophet might give a word of confirmation a word perhaps giving a particular individual direction on a personal level.

Okay, but I don't see how you really addressed the actual question, though you did a nice job of dancing around it.

The question is: If modern-day prophecy must line up with scripture, what need is there for prophets? Why not just skip the middle man and go straight to the source? In other words, to simplify it even further if that's possible: It's completely illogical to say a prophecy must conform to scripture. It's like saying, "The Lord clearly says, 'the Weather Channel says clear and warm tomorrow.' "

There's only one answer to this would make any sense if a person wants to be consistent, and that is prophecy doesn't always have to line up with scripture.

No Nehemiah6, all of the five fold ministry is currently at work in the Body of Christ….it’s not just evangelists, pastors and teachers.

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

The Body of Christ is still on the Earth and needs all 5 ministries- apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.

How would one know if they are truly called to be an Apostle or Prophet? What would be the measure to use to see if they are genuine?

Ask Him.
If prophetic gifts flow through us, we are are used to be prophetic.
If apostolic gifts flow through us we are being used to be apostolic.
I suppose, either way they start with compete humility and surrender.
bless you
