Thumbs-downing this scripture and the rest of His word is not going to make it go away.
and ignoring all other scripture while presenting this one only is not going to make biblical doctrine either

Steve,

What is getting a 'thumbs down' is the mindset, not the scriptures themselves. It seems a whole misguided doctrine has been built around this and a handful of similar sounding verses. The bible must be looked at as a whole since all Christian fanaticism comes from the isolation of verses.

the pomposity of your reply to Laura who provided examples from scripture is beyond even what one might expect from such a person as yourself

we see here, it is actually you that cannot abide the truth of the word

and now you challenge her Christianity as being authentic by asking if she believes in Jesus?

it's really enough from you. people need to report you for your nasty comments and the way you seem to think they are not Christian if they disagree with you
As I was worshipping the Lord in church this morning, He spoke to me and said that I will not need to fight in this battle.

A woman's hair is given as a covering.

You speak as if you believe men are never deceived, which shows that you yourself have fallen under deception.
No, men can be deceived; even by women who have been deceived for that they are more susceptible to being deceived than men; at least according to 1 Timothy 2:11-14.

1 Timothy 2:11-14 does not say women are more susceptible than men to being deceived.

You really ought not make things up and ascribe them to Scripture.

It does indeed teach that, providing Eve as the prototype for all women.

That is your opinion, and outside of what Scripture explicitly teaches, your opinion is meaningless here.

Adam as the prototype of all men then, has you disobeying God willfully and with full knowledge of your wrongdoing.

Which you then attempt to hide and blame someone else for.

Really puzzles me how anyone can see that as being superior to disobedience due to lack of knowledge.

the case against excluding women from active participation in church activities...is made from scripture itself:

Paul greets Phoebe in Romans 16 as a deacon of the church and Junia, whom Paul addresses as prominent among the Apostles

Priscilla is acknowledged as a teacher along with her husband, Aquila in Acts 18. 26 in fact, Priscilla corrected Paul...and Paul took it

The four daughters of Philip are spoken of as exercising the gift of prophecy in the same verse, Acts 18

In Acts 18:26, Priscilla is acknowledged as a teacher, along with her husband Aquila

the four daughters of Philip in Acts 21:9, exercised the gift of prophecy or inspired speech. and they were not married

this is all in the New Testament, so all excuses or opinions stating that women should always be silent are obviously missing something

we begin to see that maybe Paul did not want or think all women should be silent all the time..either that or Paul was a schizophrenic

Egalitarian vs Complementarian-- women's role in the church

This pastor compares the two with a light hand and without taking sides. Topic begins at about the 5 min mark.

I don't disagree with you there.

Of course there are different curses that apply to both men and women.

Again, women are more spiritual and are more inclined to accept a doctrine merely because it seems to be spiritually viable; often for emotional reasons.

While men are more analytical and likely to examine doctrine to make sure that they are accurate according to the scriptures.

Which is why it is better for a man to teach than a woman any day of the week.

While women are not prohibited from teaching other women,

If they are going to teach a man, the teaching that I have received is that they ought to operate under the covering of a man who exercises authority over her.

Of course scripture does not prohibit women from "participating in church activities." You are presenting a straw man.

Women are prohibited from "teaching or usurping authority over a man."

I did a long study at Biola on the subject in order to come up with a speech for my speech class. Probably also spent way too much time examining all sides of the issue in book after book. However, because of this, I think that I have extensive knowledge of the subject; and my opinion falls with the authoritarian view.

whoops! made a mistake in my post 369. it's actually Apollos that was corrected

24 Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit,4 he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him nthe way of God more accurately.

Thanks Laura! :)

Hmm..the authoritarian view wasn't presented in that video. When I think of the word 'authoritarian' Kim Jong Un comes to mind--in any case, there are many who have attended seminary and will say they have studied extensively and still believe things that are not in line with scripture. Case in point the Pharisees.

Well, maybe I would do better to tell you that I have an unction from the holy one (1 John 2:20) and therefore know all things...especially the truth from a lie.

But you would probably come up with some kind of disparaging comment over that, too...

LI, Your question makes no sense since that particular verse is speaking to adults about adults.
1 Corinthians 11
1Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
2Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
3But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

Also wouldn't Paul be a hypocrite as he was single or widowed and speaking in the privileged status of being married?
1 Corinthians 7:8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

So is there a height restriction or an age restriction to the church? I think we have gone through the marital status. What about widowers and widows? Midgets, pet owners?

have you gone through your Bible and also become certain verses intolerant?

why don't you address the scriptures that indicate women have positions within the church of the NT that you would like to claim are not allowed?

I think what you state is prejudiced and without understanding if you cannot address those other scriptures...see my post 369 foro ne, but there are other posts wherein women being more than silent are documented

really, address ALL of scripture or maybe you should keep silent

As I have said, women are often influenced by their emotions rather than the facts.

Therefore it is no surprise that you would appeal to emotion here.
