Heard a very powerful teaching and thought of this part of the verse in romans 12:2
Before I reveal who and what was said I would like to have some saints give what they believe the meaning of it is.
I think we all could learn a little something that needs to be corrected. I certainly did.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, romans 12:2

Think like the spirit and not like the world and you will become more like Jesus and less like Adam.

The first thing to note is that the "world" in this context, is the system created by Satan. It has been created through the people of the world. Satan keeps them bound and blind except for some who know exactly what they are doing.

We are born into this system and programmed by it. We learn how to live in the world and we are taught how get along with it. The world provides benefits for those who conform and trouble for those who do not. Some of the lies that the world teaches include:
Rebellion is a good thing, as is independence
Pride is an admirable quality
Nationalism and selfishness is good
Science is 100% dependable and has all the answers that mankind needs. Or will soon.
Morality is whatever society decides it is. There are no absolutes
Money and possessions are the key to happiness
Invest, save and hoard are good ways to get rich
Gambling is an easy path to riches.

When a person gets born again, he/she has a new spirit, where Lord Jesus lives in the Person of His Holy Spirit. The new human spirit is where God speaks, leads, teaches and if necessary, warns us. Whatever God says is perfect. The problem comes when what God is saying clashes with the preconceived notions programmed into our minds. For example we may want a better job. One comes along that seems perfect. Yet there is a sense of unease within, deeper than logic and reason. We may ignore this warning and take the job. It turns out to be a disaster.

It's a common problem with relationships. You have found the perfect match. The alarm goes off, but you ignore it. You enter a world of hurt as a result. Money is a huge problem. We've been taught to hang onto our money. God says to give and let Him take care of you. All kinds of preconceived thoughts rise up to reject God's way. I know these things through experience, invariable unpleasant.

We need our minds to be so full of God's word that we cease to argue against His will as revealed in the inner man of the spirit. God says to give to that person who is in need. Logic says, "I can't afford it!" The Word says that God will provide if we will obey. We always have a choice. If we do not know God's word, then it is much harder for us to reject human reasoning and accept God's will.

God can bring us to a place where logic and reason no longer control us. It's a process, not instantaneous. Life becomes so much easier when we no longer fight God. We learn by experience that God's ways are infinitely better than our ways.

Romans 12:2

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I believe this is saying; do not let unbelievers change who you are in Christ, but instead, keep studying His Word (the Bible) so that you can know His will and have the seal of God in your forehead (mind). The TRUTH will set you free, especially in these latter days.

When I was a kid, I had a t-shirt with Romans 12:2 quoted on it, with the words "brainwashed" printed above.

I think, simply put in plain English, Romans 12:2 is talking about being indoctrinated. By renewing the mind, we replace our previous beliefs with new beliefs.

it is incomplete we must have verse one to draw from

2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

If we do not present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, we will not be transformed or have the ability to renew our carnal way of thinking.

chapter 12 is the Christian conduct chapter. Living your life that was bought with the price of the precious blood of Jesus. Serve God with ALL the gifts he has given you. And your action is Christ-like.

the transformation of your mind will be evident in your life that you live before men and GOD.

I think it means to start believing the gospel of the kingdom and Jesus eternal promises and teachings and it will change how we see and hear and live our lives .

and begin applying them to our own life as we believe our minds and hearts are conformed because we believe the things Jesus came to tell us about his kingdom not of this world but life after death and eternal with him till all things are new .

It changes us if we hear and abide and allow his word into how we think and see others and see God as a Father

it changes who we are to believe the kingdom Jesus and the apostles preached the gospel and belief conforms us to be more like Jesus in our mind and heart and away from the image of Man in the world corrupted of its lusts described in 1 John

The gospel is all about eliminating our inner corruption and evil thinking , imaginations and lusts of the world . removing lust , pride , greed ect from the heart and mind because God law spirit is meant to dwell In and with us like a temple .

Living as very best we can bodily meaning in this lifetime we should do our best for Jesus and his word. But I feel as if it comes at a certain point To all of us as we grow if we persevere in faith

we have all failed and may fail again in ‘sinless perfection ‘ but to pursue the better man in Christ with ones life from our hearts gratitude over what’s been done for us and given to us becomes the way of the kingdom to Follow where believing the gospel of the eternal
Kingdom , conforms us into the people were Meant to be , disciples of and followers of Jesus the Lord and king .

but this is just my own view I believe he sent the gospel of the kingdom into all nations until the end as a witness and invite for all who believe . And that’s what being conformed to Christ the sons image , who shows himself in the gospel teaches us and changes us by his word and belief

I think we live as we truly believe , so if we believe right our life will follow
Suit and our actions will change by faith just my two cents maybe only with a penny though 🙂

Hebrews 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Philippians 3:11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

Acts 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Proverbs 1:23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Ephesians 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

One of the side effects related to experimenting with the forbidden fruit was
a humanistic conscience.

Gen 3:22 . . And the Lord God said: The man has now become like one of
us, knowing good and evil.

The problem is: a conscience untrained by absolutes is vulnerable to
rationalizing, sophistry, and cultural influences. In other words: Adam's ill
gotten conscience was instinctive instead of instructed.

Every Christian begins their walk with a humanistic conscience. Thus it is
necessary for their minds to undergo renovation from the ground up.

Is this where we are born again? And submitting to the Spirit? So we can become a perfect work?

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, romans 12:2
There are two parts to this verse: (1) separation from "the world" and (2) transformation by the power of God and the power of His Word.

1. The Bible says that "the whole world lieth is wickedness". Thus all wordly systems and philosophies are ultimately under "the god of this world" (Satan). So when one gets saved, he or she must make a conscious effort to ignore what the world teaches. That would prevent one from being conformed to the world. A good example is the constant changes of fashions in clothing. People in world try to keep up with current fashions, whereas the Christian must ignore them altogether. The Amish are a good example of people who ignore current fashions.

2. To be transformed by the renewing of one's mind is to abandon all worldly philosophies and false religions, and to allow the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to change one's thinking. This is a part of repentance, which means turning away from all sins and idols and looking to Christ alone.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

For years I thought that "renewing" was a verb, which meant I must "do" something to "renew my mind". And I did so by memorizing Scripture so I could bring God's Word to mind if/when I was faced with situations in which I had no idea what I should do. I would recall verses that related to what I faced and kept the verses at the forefront of my mind.

And, for what it's worth, that exercise did help as it kept me focused on what Scripture reveals. It brought peace and comfort to my mind.

However, "renewing" in Romans 12:2 is a noun, not a verb. I cannot in and of myself "renew my mind".

There are two verbs in Rom 12:2 ... "be not conformed" and "be ye transformed". As I turn from the things of the world ("be not conformed to this world"), remain steadfast in the Lord Jesus Christ, God works within to transform me inwardly. The renewed mind is the mind of Christ ... and all born again ones have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16).

God also tells us about the new man ... the new man which we are instructed to "put on" (even as we are instructed to "put off" the old man):

Ephesians 4:22-24 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts ["conformed to this world"]; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness ["renewing of your mind"].

Colossians 3:9-10 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds ["conformed to this world"]; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him ["renewing of your mind"]

Doesn't this remind you somewhat of the parable of the ground? The stony ground and then the ground that grows a little but gets choked out by weeds and then the good ground which grows abundantly.

Showing how some were not able (given) to understand the worth of Christ vs the worth of the world and its ways.

All who are born again are able (given) what is necessary ... we just get drawn away as shown in James 1:12-15:

James 1:

12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

And James goes on to tell us:

16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

I would agree about the parable of the sower, and the stages of transformation by the word of God.

1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

really shows it as well
